2008 GNAC Softball Players-of-the-Week

MacIsaac Reynolds

Week of Jan. 28-Feb. 3: Player – Megan MacIsaac, Seattle University (SS, 5-10, Jr., Santa Barbara, CA – Dos Pueblos) had six hits in 12 at bats, scored three runs and drove in five to lead the Redhawks to a 4-0 record and the tournament title in the Mizuno Best of the West Invitational at Turlock, Calif. MacIsaac reached base 10 times in 16 at bats, also drawing four walks. The Redhawk shortstop was one of three Seattle University players named to the all-tournament team. Pitcher – Kelsey Reynolds, Seattle University (5-9, So., Kent, WA – Kentlake) pitched two shutouts at Turlock, allowing just 11 hits in 14 innings. In her two victories, Reynolds walked two and struck out eight. Reynolds was named the tournament's MVP and her two shutouts gave SU the tournament title on the tiebreaker (most shutouts).

Holtman Rosencrants

Week of Feb. 11-17: Player – Mallory Holtman, Central Washington (1B, 5-9, Sr., White Salmon, WA) had 10 hits in 18 at bats, including two doubles, two triples and one home run. She also scored five runs and drove in five finishing the Schutts Leadoff Classic at Phoenix, Ariz. with 1.056 slugging average. Her home run was the 26 th of her career moving her into sole possession of fourth place on the GNAC all-time career list. Pitcher – Jessica Rosencrants, Western Washington (P, 5-8, Jr., Sequim, WA – Peninsula) posted a 3-1 record, striking out 25 in 28 innings in leading the Vikings to the Bronze Division title at Phoenix. She retired 50 of the last 56 batters she faced, notching three wins and a save as WWU rallied to win its last four games. On the final day, she tossed a one-hit shutout in a 6-0 victory over Montana State Billings in the semifinals, then hung on to defeat No.10-ranked and defending champion Cal State Stanislaus, 4-3, in the championship game. During one stretch, she retired a school-record 21 straight, getting the first 13 MSUB batters after retiring all eight she faced in picking up a save in a quarterfinal win over Western New Mexico.

Purdy Fleer

Week of Feb. 25-Mar. 2: Player – Jane Purdy, Seattle University (2B, 5-5, Sr., Missoula, MT - Sentinel) was the leading hitter in the CWU Invitational at Richland with a .579 average, banging out 11 hits in 19 at bats. She tied for the team lead with four RBI and also handled 19 chances defensively without an error in leading the Redhawks to a 6-1 record. Pitcher – Katie Fleer, Western Oregon (6-2, Sr., Salem, OR - McKay) allowed just two runs and six hits in 14 innings pitching the Wolves to wins over Central Washington (2-1) and Seattle University (5-1). Fleer walked two and struck out 11 while holding opposing batters to a .118 average in her victories Fleer now has wins this season over two nationally ranked teams – No. 6 Humboldt State and No. 18 Seattle University.

Week of Mar. 3-9: Player – Lisa Pendergrast, Western Washington (OF-SS, 5-5, Sr., Bow, WA) and Mallory Holtman, Central Washington (1B, 5-9, Sr., White Salmon, WA). . .Pendergrast had the game-winning RBI in two of the four games as the Vikings won three of four with Montana State Billings. In the series, she went seven for 14, including one double. She drove in three runs and stole two bases. . .Holtman had seven hits in 13 at bats, including two doubles, one triple and two home runs, as the Wildcats won three of four games, including a split of a twinbill with nationally eighth-ranked Western Oregon. The two home runs which both came against Western Oregon increased her career total to 31, two short of the GNAC career record. Pitcher – Erin Martin, Seattle (5-7, Sr., Valencia, CA) didn't walk a batter and fanned 11 in pitching the Redhawks to two wins over Montana State Billings improving to 8-0 on the season. Martin gave up 15 hits, but just three runs in the two contests.

Stacks Martin

Week of Mar. 10-16: Player – Terina Stacks, Montana State Billings (1B, 5-7, Jr., Washougal, WA) had eight hits in 19 at bats for a .421 average as the Yellowjackets won four of six games, including conference doubleheader sweeps of Saint Martin's and Western Oregon. Stacks hit home runs in back-to-back games in victories over Western Oregon.  Her first home run was game-winner in a 2-1 victory and her second tied the game 3-3. MSUB went on to beat the Wolves 6-4 to complete the sweep.  Stacks also scored six runs and posted a .842 slugging average. Defensively, she handled 42 chances without an error.   Pitcher – Erin Martin, Seattle University (5-7, Sr., Valencia, CA) won three games to run her win streak to 11. In the three contests, which included a five-inning perfect game against Northwest Nazarene, Martin allowed 11 hits and four runs in 17 innings. She walked one and struck out seven. The perfect game was the fifth in GNAC history and Martin's second. She also pitched a six-inning perfect game on Apr. 5, 2006 against Saint Martin's.

Mohr Moore

Week of Mar. 17-23: Player – Logan Mohr, Central Washington (3B, 5-5, Sr., Bainbridge Island, WA – LCC) led the Wildcats to a doubleheader sweep of Northwest Nazarene with four hits, including two doubles, in eight at bats to raise her season average to .300. She also drove in three runs and handled three chances defensively without an error. Pitcher – Lisa Moore, Montana State Billings (5-6, Jr., Bakersfield, CA – Liberty) pitched a two-hit shutout in a 9-0 win over Great Falls. Moore walked one and struck out eight. She also had two hits in three at bats to raise her season average to .310.

 

Berin Klemm

Week of Mar. 24-30: Player – Lauren Berin, Seattle University (1B, 5-3, So., Lacey, WA – Paloma Valley) drove in 12 runs as the Redhawks split eight games, including a 7-6 win over nationally 13 th ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills in the Mizuno Tournament of Champions at Turlock, Calif. Berin had nine hits in 26 at bats (including a pre-tournament game with Cal State San Bernardino). Among her hits were two doubles and two home runs. Pitcher – Brandi Klemm, Saint Martin's (P, 5-7, Fr., Everett, WA – Cascade) won her only two decisions and had a 1.94 earned run average leading the Saints to a 3-3 record at Turlock. In 18 innings including a 4-0 shutout of Chaminade, Klemm allowed only five runs as the Saints posted the best record of any GNAC team at the tournament.

Wallace Reynolds Reime

Week of Mar. 31-Apr. 6: Player – Liz Wallace, Central Washington (SS, 5-6, Jr., Florence, MT – Florence-Carlton) went six for six and drove in five runs to lead the Wildcats to a doubleheader sweep of Northwest Nazarene. Among her hits in the opener was a fifth-inning single that snapped a 2-2 tie. Pitcher – Katriina Reime, Central Washington (6-0, So., Hoquiam, WA) and Kelsey Reynolds, Seattle University (5-9, So., Kent, WA – Kentlake). . .Reime allowed just four hits and one run in three relief appearances, including two against regionally top-ranked Humboldt State. In 7 1/3 innings, she didn't walk a batter, fanned six and picked up a victory. Reynolds allowed six hits in a 3-1 win over defending GNAC champion Western Washington as the Redhawks swept the Vikings to move into a tie for first-place with CWU.

Frank Fleer Moore

Week of Apr. 7-13: Player – Jessica Frank, Montana State Billings (SS, 5-4, Sr., Great Falls, MT) had a huge week, leading the Yellowjackets to five conference wins in six road games. Frank had 13 hits, including a “double cycle”, in 24 at bats Among her hit with seven singles, two doubles, two triples and two home runs. She also drove in nine runs and stole three bases. Pitcher – Katie Fleer, Western Oregon (6-2, Sr., Salem, OR – Chemeketa) and Lisa Moore, Montana State Billings (5-6, Jr., Bakersfield, CA – Liberty). Fleer posted a 3-0 record in four appearances, allowing just one run and recording a 0.40 ERA in 17 2/3 innings. She walked five and fanned 12. Moore won all four of her decisions, allowing 17 hits and fanning 21 in 21 2/3 innings. She doubled her season win total improving to 8-5.

Dorn Fleer Fuchs

Week of Apr. 14-20: Player – Trina Dorn, Western Oregon (3B, 5-4, Sr., Henderson, NV – Green Valley) had eight hits in 13 at bats and drove in 11 runs leading the Wolves to sweeps of Saint Martin's and Montana State Billings. Among her hits were five singles, a double, triple and home run. She also scored four runs. Pitcher – Katie Fleer, Western Oregon (6-2, Sr., Salem, OR – Chemeketa) and Alicia Fuchs, Saint Martin's (5-6, Sr., Randle, WA – White Pass). . .Fleer struck out 21 and walked just one batter in 12 innings in complete-game wins over Saint Martin's and Western Oregon to extend her personal win streak to five. . .Though the Saints won just one of six games, Fuchs gave up just one run in nine innings in three appearances. She pitched six scoreless innings in Sunday's second game against MSUB. The Yellowjackets snapped the scoreless deadlock with four runs in the eighth.

Antich Gosselin Fleer

Week of Apr. 21-27: Player Katie Antich, Seattle University (OF, 5-6, So., Spokane, WA – Gonzaga Prep) and Stephanie Gosselin, Montana State Billings (OF, 5-9, Jr., Victoria, BC – Stelly's). . .Antich had seven hits in 15 at bats and stole four bases to increase her season total to a school record 23 as the Redhawks won three of four games, splitting at Montana State Billings before sweeping a home twinbill with Central Washington. Among her hits were a pair of doubles. Gosselin batted .579 (11 of 19) leading the Yellowjackets to four wins in six games, including a split with Seattle University. She scored eight runs and drove in seven. Among her hits were two home runs. She went four for four and drove in four runs in MSUB's 10-2 win over the Redhawks. Pitcher – Katie Fleer, Western Oregon (6-2, Sr., Salem, OR – McKay & Chemeketa) won three games, allowing just 12 hits and three runs (two earned) in 17 innings. She walked three and fanned 16 as the Wolves ran their win streak to 11.

Berin Martin

Week of Apr. 28-May 4: Player - Lauren Berin, Seattle University (1B, 5-3, So., Lacey, WA – Paloma Valley) had nine hits, including six doubles, in 18 at bats to help the Redhawks nail down their fourth post-season playoff appearance since 2004. Berin also walked three times and drove in seven runs. Pitcher – Erin Martin, Seattle University (5-7, Sr., Valencia, CA) won four games and recorded three shutouts to increase her career totals to 88 and 36, respectively, which are both GNAC records. She didn't walk a batter in 27 innings, allowing 23 hits and six runs while fanning 15.
