LA JOLLA, Calif. – Central Washington could not solve the puzzle thrown out by Sonoma State’s Brielle Vidmar as she threw complete game four-hitter as the Seawolves ended the Wildcats’ season with a 5-0 loss in the NCAA Division II Softball West Regional at the Triton Softball Field.

Vidmar allowed four hits and five walks while striking out five to earn her 20th win of the season as Central Washington saw its season end with a 33-20 overall record.

The Wildcats had plenty of chances to score, but could never hit the pay station. Central Washington had two runners in scoring position in the first when sophomore Katie Kastning walked with one out and sophomore Maddy Zerr reached on a fielder’s choice only to see senior Kayla Smith coxed into a ground out to end the inning.

In the third, senior Rachael Johnson led off with a double to left, but was put out when sophomore Savannah Egbert hit into a fielder’s choice. That would be the last time the Wildcats found runners in scoring position.

Sonoma State opened scoring in the second when Jordann White doubled to right field and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Cameron Kirtlan made it a 2-0 game in the third when she drew a leadoff walk and later scored on a single by White.

The Seawolves put the game truly out of reach in the bottom of the sixth when Jordyn Martinez hit a bases-clearing three-run double.

Sophomore Lexie Strasser fell to 18-13 with the loss, allowing five runs on 13 hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Combined with her work in the GNAC Softball Championships, Strasser threw 32 consecutive innings to end the season for Central Washington.

Central Washington’s four hits were distributed between four different batters, with Kastning also drawing two walks.
