TURLOCK, Calif. - Outfielder Madi Davis and pitcher Taylor Bakos were named to the all-tournament team leading Saint Martin's to a second-place finish in the Cal State Stanislaus Tournament of Champions softball tournament which concluded Sunday at Pedretti Field.

The Saints finished the 26-team event with a record of 6-1 losing to Cal State Dominguez Hills 8-2 in the championship game. That earned SMU GNAC Team of the Week honors for the second time this spring.

The Toros put the game away early jumping to a 7-1 lead after two innings.  The Saints managed just three hits, including two by pitcher Sam Munger who homered in the fourth inning.

The Saints advanced to the title game winning all five of their round-robin games Friday and Saturday and then defeating Chaminade 9-2 in Sunday's semifinal game.

Davis had two hits and three RBI to key that victory and finished the tournament with a .478 batting average.  She banged out 11 hits including a double and two triples in 23 at bats.  She also led the Saints with nine RBI.

Bakos pitched in five games, winning three and also earning a save.  She gave up just 12 hits and six runs (four earned) in 16 1/3 innings and had a 1.71 earned run average.

Second baseman Lacey McGladrey also had an outstanding tournament hitting .455 and leading SMU in runs scored (10) and doubles (6).  Pitcher-shortstop Sam Munger batted .360 (9 of 25), scored seven runs and drove in six.

In the circle, Munger had a 2-1 record and a 3.08 ERA.  In 25 innings, she gave up 26 hits and 14 runs, walking seven and striking out 13.

Saint Martin's finished the tournament with a .313 team batting average and a 2.19 ERA.  The Saints (26-11) return to conference action this Thursday hosting Western Oregon for a pair of games before traveling to Montana State Billings Saturday for two contests.

SMU is currently second in the GNAC standings with an 8-4 record. Simon Fraser is in first place with an 11-4 conference record.

Simon Fraser Wins Bronze Bracket Title

Simon Fraser won the Bronze Bracket title defeating Western Washington 4-3 in the semifinals.  Grand Canyon won the other semifinal, but was unable to play in the title game due to NCAA game limit restrictions.

The Clan (20-16) snapped a 1-1 tie scoring three runs in the fourth on RBI hits by Rachel Proctor (double), Trisha Bouchard and Carly Lepoutre.  Western Washington scored single runs in the sixth on a stolen base by Arianna Barrio and in the seventh on a double by Cheyenne Best before Kelsie Hawkins got the final out to earn a save.  Lepoutre's hit was her second of the game.

The Vikings split two games Sunday defeating San Francisco State 8-7 in a non-tournament game, rallying from a 7-1 deficit with five runs in the sixth and two in the seventh on a two-out double by Rachelle Berry. 

WWU (19-19) had 12 hits in the contest, including three each by Camille Depew and Kristen Allen.  Depew had three RBI and Allen drove in two runs.

Western Oregon finished its tournament off with a victory, rallying from a 5-0 deficit to defeat Chico State 9-5 in the final consolation bracket game.  The Wolves (20-21) scored two runs in the second, one in the third and two in the fifth to tie the game, then used a four-run sixth to win it. 

Jourdan Williams' two-out single broke the tie and Bridjet Box then added three insurance runs with a home run.  Melanie Pfeiffer had three of WOU's 10 hits.

Central Washington (16-13) and Montana State Billings each lost their final games.  The Wildcats lost to Hawaii Hilo 4-2 in a Silver Bracket semifinal game.  Remy Bradley and Michaela Hazlett each had two hits for the Wildcats.  CWU's Heidy Wells, who had a 3-0 record and a 1.03 ERA in the tournament, was named to the all-tournament team.

The Yellowjackets (9-23) lost their  Platinum bracket semifinal to Notre Dame de Namur 5-3.  MSUB jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first, but the Argonauts scored twice in the third inning and three runs in the sixth.
