March 10
Wolves Earn Split With Humboldt State

The Lumberjacks (9-9) came back to win the second game 6-1 and take the series 3-1.
White improved to 2-0 on the season, allowing only a first-inning run on a leadoff home run by Nikki Ketteringham. WOU (6-7) tied the game in the second on a RBI double by Ellen Bogardus.
The Wolves then took a 3-1 lead in the sixth on a RBI single by Tierra-Lyn Cuba and an error before tacking on another run in the seventh on a homer by Amanda Fleer.
In the second game, Humboldt built a 5-1 lead through three innings getting solo home runs from Giavanna Hampton, Kristen Nouzovsky and Lindsay Warren.
Meanwhile Vaneza Hoover allowed the Wolves just six hits and one run on a first-inning single by Stephanie Albrecht.
March 9
Wolves Lose Twice At Humboldt State
Humboldt State, which is off to one of its worst starts in school history, swept a doubleheader from Western Oregon Tuesday to level its season record at 8-8.
The Lumberjacks, who currently rank ninth in the CCAA with a 2-6 conference record, posted 6-1 and 5-2 victories in the twinbill at Arcata, holding the Wolves to just nine hits.
In the opener, the 'Jacks used a four-run third to take control. Lindsay Warren led the way with three hits and three RBI. Shortstop Tyler Sutherland had three of WOU's four hits including a solo home run in the third to account for the Wolves' lone run.
In the second game, WOU scored twice in the sixth on a two-run home run by Jessica Hallmark but that is all they could manage off of Gracie Perez who pitched a five-hitter and fanned seven.
Western Oregon (5-6) had its opportunities in the opener as pitcher Vaneza Hoover walked eight, but WOU stranded 10 runners.
March 7
Central Sweeps Saints to Grab Early Lead in GNAC Softball Race
Lauren Hadenfeld hurled 10 scoreless innings pitching Central Washington to a 8-0, 10-5 home doubleheader sweep of Saint Martin's Sunday in a GNAC softball doubleheader at Frederick Field.
The sweep enabled the Wildcats (6-4, 6-2) to open up a one-game lead over arch-rival Western Washington (5-3, 5-3) and a two-game lead over defending champion MSU Billings and Western Oregon in the conference race.
The Wolves swept the Yellowjackets 10-6 and 3-0 Sunday in Monmouth leaving both teams at 4-4 in the conference. MSUB is 6-7 overall and the Wolves are 5-4.
Central Washington 8-10, Saint Martin's 0-5
After hurling a four-hit shutout in the opener which ended after the fifth due to the eight-run rule, Hadenfeld (4-1) was called upon to take over in the third inning of the nightcap inheriting a 5-0 deficit.
She preceded to blank the Saints (4-9, 3-5) on two hits over the final five innings, walking one and fanning four, finishing the day with three walks and 12 strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Central rallied for 10 runs, tying it with five in the third, then adding two more in the fourth and three in the fifth.
Shortstop Samantha Petrich drove in three runs and was one of four CWU players to have two hits along with Danielle Monson, Keilani Cruz and Ashley Fix. Cruz's solo home run in the fourth snapped the 5-5 tie.
In the opener, third baseman Kelsey Haupert provided most of CWU's offense, driving in five runs with a two-run single in the third and a three-run home run in the fifth.
After Haupert's blast, the Wildcats added three more runs in the inning, ending the game on a two-run single by Cruz, who finished the day with four hits and four RBI.
Leadoff hitter Megan Antonovich had three hits in the opener and five hits and two RBI on the day to lead the Saints.
Western Oregon 10-3, Montana State Billings 6-3
Bailey Rueck had three hits and four RBI in the opener and Jessie Lessard tossed a three-hit shutout in the nightcap as the Wolves swept MSUB in a battle of the teams who were picked to finish 1-2 in the coaches' pre-season poll.
Western Oregon overcame a 5-0 deficit to win the first game as Rueck hit a grand slam home run in the fourth to give WOU a 6-5 lead. The Wolves added one more run in the fith and three in the sixth.
Shortstop Tyler Sutherland had two hits and scored two runs and catcher Ellen Bogardus also had a pair of safeties. Kaycee Hoffman and Kelly Parsons each drove in two runs for MSUB.
Parsons' RBIs came on a two-run home run in the second, while Hoffman had a RBI single in the third and a run-scoring double in the seventh.
Lessard walked five and fanned eight in winning her first game of the season against two losses in the nightcap. Amanda Fleer had RBI singles in the second and sixth and Sutherland homered in the third to account for all of the scoring.
March 6
Vikings Complete Sweep of Four-Game Series
Erika Quint pitched a two-hit shutout in the opener and shortstop Caitlin Dotlich singled to drive in two runs to snap a 4-4 tie in the nightcap as Western Washington completed a four-game sweep of Northwest Nazarene with 8-0 and 9-4 victories Saturday at Halle Field in Nampa.
The Vikings (5-3, 5-3) picked up a full game on everyone else in the conference as Central Washington (4-4, 4-2) and Saint Martin's (4-7, 3-3) divided a doubleheader in Ellensburg and Montana State Billings (6-5, 4-2) and Western Oregon (3-4, 2-4) split a pair in Monmouth.
CWU won its opener 3-1 before falling to the Saints 4-2. Western Oregon beat MSU Billings 5-2, then lost by the same score in their nightcap.
Western Washington 8-9, Northwest Nazarene 0-4
Quint walked one and fanned nine in the five-inning opener giving up only a pair of hits in the fourth as Kristin Refsland doubled and Chelsey Anderson singled.
Western Washington scored all its runs in two innings, getting three in the second on a wild pitch, a double by Jessica Carey and a single by Stephanie Fox before scoring five more in the third.
Rachelle Berry led off that inning with a home run. Later Kelsey Anderson singled for two runs. Carey had another RBI double and the final run scored on a bases-loaded walk to Berry.
In the second game, Catherine Lowery had a pair of ground out RBIs to stake NNU (2-6, 2-6) to a 4-3 lead, but the Vikings went ahead on the sixth netting four runs.
Meghan Flem walked with the bases loaded to drive in the tying run before Dotlich's hit gave WWU a 6-4 lead. Jordan Emmil's fielder's choice plated another run and Samantha Rutherford singled to plate a pair of insurance runs in the seventh.
Sarah McEnroe pitched the first five innings allowing six hits to record the win. Erika Hendron earned a save with two scoreless innings of relief.
Dotlich finished with three hits in three at bats. NNU's Haley Hevern and Emily Renfro paced the Crusaders with two hits each.
Central Washington 3-2, Saint Martin's 1-4
Each team used three-run home runs to earn a victory as the Wildcats and Saints opened their four-game series at Frederick Field in Ellensburg.
Third baseman Kelsey Haupert's three-run home run in the fourth gave the Wildcats the victory in the opener. Haupert's drive came after singles by Danielle Monson and Samantha Petrich.
Lauren Hadenfeld scattered seven hits to earn the win. She didn't walk a batter and struck out 11. Morgan Klemm had three of SMU's hits and its only RBI with a sixth-inning single.
The Saints gained the advantage early in the second game scoring three runs in the first on a three-run home run by Kelsie McGladrey.
Pitchers Amanda Arnzen and Brandi Klemm made the three runs stand up. Arnzen went four innings in evening her record at 3-3 though she allowed 12 base runners, six on hits, five on walks and one on a hit pitch.
Klemm was more efficient allowing just one hit after entering the game in the fifth. She faced just nine hitters.
Haupert and Monson had CWU's RBIs. Monson tripled for a run in the second and Haupert plated another run in the fifth with a double.
Klemm, however, came in at the point and got three outs against two hitters as Molly Coppinger popped into a double play and Christyne Alley flied out.
Klemm then threw two more innings allowing just a two-out single to Monson in the sixth.
Western Oregon 5-2, Montana State Billings 2-5
Jessica Hallmark and Whitney Whittemore powered their respective teams to victories as the Wolves and Yellowjackets divided a doubleheader at the WOU Softball Field.
Hallmark's three-run home run in the sixth extended a 2-0 WOU lead to 5-0 in the opener. As it turned out those were runs the Wolves needed as MSUB got two in the seventh on a double by Bobbie Lee.
Tyler Sutherland drove in Western Oregon's other two runs with a homer in the first and a double in the third.
Whittemore, the MSUB shortstop, hit a two-run home run in the first to stake the 'Jackets to a quick 2-0 lead in the nightcap. MSUB extended that lead to 4-0 in the third on a two-run home run by Kaycee Hoffman.
After WOU cut its deficit in half in its half of the third on a two-run single by Andrea Bailey, Whittemore went deep again in the seventh to complete the scoring. She finished the game with three of MSUB's nine hits.
Lindsey Trenary got the win, pitching 4 1/3 innings and allowing all four WOU hits. Kasie Conder pitched 2 1/3 hitless innings after a one-out appearance by Josie Grotbo to get a save.
March 5
Vikings Sweep Road Twinbill at Northwest Nazarene
Two four-run rallies and some standout pitching keyed Western Washington's 6-2 and 7-0 sweep of Northwest Nazarene in a GNAC softball doubleheader Friday at Halle Field.
The Vikings' Caitlin Dotlich sparked both rallies, hitting a two-run triple in the second inning of the opener and a two-run single in the seventh inning of the nightcap. She finished the day with five hits in nine at bats and drove in four runs.
Pitcher Sarah McEnroe (1-1) struck out three and scattering six hits in winning the opener. She retired 15 of the first 18 Crusader batters and didn't surrender a run until NNU scored a pair of unearned runs in the seventh.
Michelle Wrigley, Jackie Rothenberger, Dotlich and Jordan Emmil all had two hits in the contest.
In the nightcap, Western broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the seventh.
With one-out, Kelsey Anderson drew an 11-pitch walk. Rachelle Berry doubled Anderson to third and Flem walked to load the bases. Rothenberger singled home one run. Dotlich then singled across two more and Rothenberger scored on a wild pitch.
Erika Hendron and Erika Quint combined for the shutout. Hendron pitched the first five innings and Quint worked the last two in picking up her first win in three decisions.
WWU (3-3, 3-3) finished the game with 11 hits, including three each by Dotlich and Stephanie Fox and two by Rothenberger. Catherine Lowery led NNU (2-4, 2-4) with two safeties.
February 27
Saints Sweep To Earn Series Split With Northwest Nazarene
The games were the only ones played in the conference as Western Washington's scheduled doubleheader with Montana State Billings was postponed due to weather conditions.
Central Washington's four-game series with Western Oregon was also delayed. Both series will begin Sunday weather permitting.
Klemm hit a three-run home run in the sixth as the Saints scored four times to break a 1-1 tie in the opener. Earlier in the inning Kristine Kaneshiro had singled to snap a 1-1 tie. Klemm also had a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.
In the second game, the Saints trailed 1-0 until Aiwohi singled for two runs in the sixth. Sigafoos then doubled for three runs in the seventh. Both hits came with two out.
NNU's only runs in the doubleheader came on on a first-inning double by Chelsey Anderson in the opener and on a third-inning single by Catherine Lowery in the second contest.
Saint pitchers Joslyn Eugenio and Amanda Arnzen outdueled their NNU counterparts. Eugenio scattered seven hits in the opener, walking one and fanning two to beat Anderson, who also gave up seven hits.
Arnzen spun a three-hitter in the nightcap, walking three and striking out one to beat Nichole Grummons who gave up a dozen hits, including three each to Klemm and Kelsie McGladrey.

Crusaders Sweep SMU in Openers
Chelsey Anderson tossed a two-hit shutout in the opener and Nicole Grummons scattered six hits and allowed one run in the nightcap as Northwest Nazarene swept Saint Martin's 5-0 and 3-1 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference softball doubleheader Friday afternoon at Halle Field
The games were the season and conference openers for the Crusaders. Saint Martin's, which played five games two weeks ago in Las Vegas, fell to 1-6.
Anderson walked two and fanned one in earning her second career shutout. Her first shutout came against College of Idaho last season. It was also NNU's first shutout in a conference game since Adrian Herman two-hit Seattle University on Apr. 29, 2006.
Anderson, who gave up singles in the third and seventh to Kristine Kaneshiro and Emily Squiers, got all the runs she needed early as NNU scored three runs in the first including one on a caught stealing and two on a single by third baseman Dana Mitchell.
The Crusaders added two insurance runs in the third as Haley Hevern was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Anderson later had a RBI single. Anderson and Emily Renfro each had two hits.
Grummons pitched a six-hitter in the nightcap. She didn't walk anyone and fanned one. Saint Martin's lone run came in the first on a single by Kaneshiro.
NNU, however, grabbed the lead in the fifth as Hevern singled home catcher Arielle Chao and right fielder Kristin Refsland, who reached on a single, later stole home. Chao drove in the final run in the sixth on a ground out.
Both teams had six hits in the contest, but NNU first baseman Catherine Lowery was the only player with more than one as she had a double and a single.
Joslyn Eugenio had a pair of solid pitching performances for the Saints allowing just three runs (two earned) in 8 2/3 innings. She allowed nine hits, walking only one.
February 18
Western Oregon Beats Corban 1-0 in Opener
Bailey Rueck knocked in the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning and five Western Oregon pitchers combined for a shutout as the Wolves beat Corban 1-0 in their 2010 season opener at Monmouth.
Rueck, who had two of the Wolves' seven hits, doubled off the left field wall to drive in Tyler Sutherland from second base in the first extra inning
Brittany Reeves earned the win in relief in her Western Oregon debut. She pitched the final three innings of the game allowing one hit while striking out four.
Jessica Wood, Stephanie Albrecht and Kelsey White all contributed with one shutout inning apiece, while Jessie Lessard gave the Wolves two perfect innings to start the game.
"The pitchers were our biggest standouts," said Western Oregon head coach Pam Knox. "I am excited about our staff and we should have one of the best around. They all showed their versatility today."
After WOU had an out on the board in the bottom of the eighth, Tyler Sutherland smacked a clean single to center field and Chelsey Grigsby slapped a bunt single between the shortstop and the third baseman setting up Rueck for the game-winning hit.
"We knew we needed to get Tyler in scoring position for Bailey," Knox said. "Bailey is very refined as hitter for a sophomore and it was just a matter of time till we got a timely hit."
Western Oregon pitchers struck out 10 Corban batters in the game without allowing a walk. They also surrendered just three singles in the game, two to Nicole Sikes.
Warriors' pitcher Makenzie Marchbanks pitched the complete game. She allowed seven hits and one run while striking out seven and walking two.
February 14
Saints, MSUB Lose Final Games in Vegas
Teddy Barry drove in five runs to lead Grand Canyon to a 12-3 win over Saint Martin's Sunday in the MSUB Desert Stinger Invitational softball tournament in Las Vegas.
The Saints finished the tournament with a 1-4 record. Host MSU Billings ended up at 2-3 losing its final game to defending West Region champion Dixie State 7-4.
Grand Canyon, which had four home runs among its 11 hits, scored in every inning but the fourth in its five-inning victory against SMU.
The Saints scored runs in the second on a single by Brittany Burgess, in the third on a bases-loaded walk to Kristi Sigafoos and in the fourth on an error.
Dixie jumped to an early 4-0 lead against MSUB. The Yellowjackets cut the lead in half in the fourth on a two-run single by right fielder Tasha Maier.
But, the Red Storm, which improved to 3-2, put three additional runs on the board in the seventh offsetting a two-run home run by Stevie Howard in the bottom of the inning. Kasie Conder went the distance for MSUB, giving up 12 hits and six earned runs.

Saints, Yellowjackets Go 1-1 at Las Vegas
Saint Martin's and Montana State Billings each earned a victory Saturday in the MSUB Desert Stinger Invitational softball tournament in Las Vegas.
The two teams had different outcomes with Hawaii Hilo as the Saints beat the Vulcans 4-3, while the Yellowjackets lost to UHH 8-3.
MSUB beat Chadron State 9-4 in its other contest, while SMU lost to Augustana, SD, 7-5. Going into Sunday's play, MSUB is 2-2 in the tournament, while SMU is 1-3.
Catcher Kelsie McGladrey and left fielder Kirstin Davidson hit solo home runs to back the four-hit pitching of Amanda Arnzen in SMU's win over Hawaii Hilo.
Arnzen struggled with her control, walking nine, but she stranded 12 runners on base. She also had four strikeouts. McGladrey's home run in the top of the sixth turned out to be the difference after Hilo got a run in the bottom of the frame.
The Saints had 11 hits against Augustana, but the South Dakota school broke a 4-4 tie scoring two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth.
Saint pitcher Joslyn Eugenio had three of SMU's hits, but gave up eight hits and all seven runs (five earned) in the circle.
Four of the Saint runs scored on homers as third baseman Morgan Klemm had a three-run blast in the third and first baseman Emily Squiers had a solo shot in the fifth.
Josie Grotbo got credit for the win in Montana State Billings' victory. She gave up six hits and four runs in 4 1/3 innings. None of the runs were earned.
First baseman Kaycee Hoffman, third baseman Angela Lingle and center fielder Bobbi Lee led MSUB with two hits each. Lingle had two RBI.
MSUB had a 3-2 lead against Hawaii Hilo before the Vulcans scored twice in the fifth and four in the sixth off Kasie Conder. Only four of UHH's eight runs were earned.
Seven different players had hits for the Yellowjackets. Three of them - shortstop Whitney Whittemore, Hoffman and designated player Ashley Moeller - had RBI.
February 12
MSUB Splits in Las Vegas Tournament
Kasie Conder pitched a three-hitter and Kelly Parsons and Kaycee Hoffman each drove in two runs as Montana State Billings defeated Academy of Art 4-1 in the opening day of the Las Vegas Stinger Invitational softball tournament Friday.
The Yellowjackets lost their second game 5-2 in eight innings to Grand Canyon. Meanwhile, Saint Martin's lost a pair of games, falling to Academy of Art 4-3 and Western New Mexico 11-6.
Conder walked three and fanned eight in winning MSUB's opener. She was the losing pitcher against Grand Canyon, allowing five runs in 3 2/3 innings, including four in the eighth. Kelsey Carter's pinch-hit three-run home run won the game for the Antelopes.
Hoffman and Parsons hit two-run home runs in the second and sixth providing MSUB with all its offense in its victory. Parsons also had a RBI single in the fourth inning against Grand Canyon.
MSUB got a RBI double from Stevie Howard in the eighth to take a 2-1 lead before Grand Canyon rallied for four runs in its portion of the inning.
Academy of Art scored a run in the top of the seventh on an error to snap a 3-3 tie in its victory against Saint Martin's. Amanda Arnzen pitched a four-hitter for the Saints but was the victim of three errors as all four runs were unearned.
Pinch-hitter Emily Squiers and designated player Joslyn Eugenio had solo home runs in the bottom of the sixth and Eugenio had an RBI double in the fourth as the Saints rallied from an early 3-0 deficit.
Western New Mexico snapped a 5-5 tie with two runs in the fourth and four in the sixth in its win over Saint Martin's. Kristina Barr and Kaitlynn Barnes led WNMU with three RBI each.
Kristi Sigafoos and Brandy Orgill each had three hits for the Saints. Eugenio, Sigafoos and Megan Antonovich had RBIs.
February 5
Wildcats Blanked In Season Openers
Central Washington got solid pitching but was unable to score a run in losing twice Friday in the Mizuno Best of the West Invitational softball tournament at Pedretti Park in Turlock, Calif.
The Wildcats were three-hit by Camille Gaito in losing 2-0 to UC San Diego. Central got eight hits against Cal State Dominguez Hills but stranded eight in a 3-0 loss.
Three CWU pitchers combined to allow just four earned runs. Starters Lauren Hadenfeld and Lindy Baxter were tagged with the losses despite fine outings.
Hadenfeld allowed only four hits and one earned run in five innings, fanning seven against UCSD. Baxter gave up just one run and three hits in five innings in her outing.
Danielle Monson, Meghan Kopczynski, Ashley Fix and Molly Coppinger each had two hits on the day for the Wildcats, but none of them produced runs.
The remaining four games of the tournament Saturday and Sunday were rained out.
