AMARILLO, Texas – Behind a third-place round by senior Kylie Jack, Simon Fraser sits in fifth place on the team leaderboard after the first round of the NCAA Division II West Super Regional Monday at the Amarillo Country Club.

Simon Fraser finished the first day with a 25-over-par score of 309. Jack pulled into a tie for third place individually after carding a 2-over-par 73, sitting just four strokes back of the leader.

The super regional consists of three rounds played over three days on the 6,436-yard, par-71 course. Jack started on the 10th hole, tallying a pair of birdies in her first eight holes before making the turn at 1-under par. She then finished with a 38 on her final nine holes of the day for a total of 73.

B.C. natives Jaya Rampuri and Estee Leung also impressed on day one in Amarillo, sitting in ties for fifth and sixth place, respectively. Rampuri ended her day with three consecutive birdies to jump into the top-five with a 3-over par 74, while Leung carded 15 pars en route to a 77.

Upperclassmen Belinda Lin and Laura Jones rounded out the round with matching scores of 85 for their team.

Simon Fraser got off to a hot start and was alone in first place early in the day. The team now sits eight strokes back of first-place Oklahoma Christian, who tallied a total score of 301. The top four teams at the end of the third round will advance to the national championships.

After receiving selection as an individual for the NCAA Division II West Super Regional, Concordia senior Shantel Antonio shot a first-round score of 6-over par 77 to finish in a tie for 16th place.

Antonio is one of six golfers competing as an individual amongst the 66 total competitors. The top-four individual finishers that are not from a top-four team will also qualify for the national championships.

She ended her day in style, making a birdie on the 18th hole to climb inside the top-20. Antonio made the turn with a score of 39 before carding a 38 on the back nine. The senior entered the day ranked third in the GNAC in scoring average.

Antonio is in first place among the competing individuals. Teammate Cammie Decker, also among the unattached six, sits in a tie for 44th place after firing an 82.

Play will resume on Tuesday morning in Amarillo as the top golfers in the West return to the course for second round action.
