CHICAGO – Just over a month removed from leading Simon Fraser to a Great Northwest Athletic Conference championship, Clan senior Mamadi Camara became a member of the San Jose Earthquakes in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft on Friday.

Camara, the reigning the GNAC Player of the Year, was taken by the Earthquakes in the second round with the 46th pick in the draft. The midfielder finished his senior season with a league-leading 13 assists to go along with nine goals.

In addition to being voted as the conference’s Player of the Year, Camara was named as a United Soccer Coaches First Team All-American in November.

The Montreal native is the first SFU player selected in the MLS SuperDraft since forward Jovan Blagojevic, who was taken by the Vancouver Whitecaps during the third round in 2015. Blagojevic was selected 54th overall after a season in which he was selected as the GNAC and NCAA West Region Player of the Year.

Behind Camara's heroics, Simon Fraser finished the 2018 campaign with a record of 17-2-0 and won the GNAC title for a third straight season.
