KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Luke Chavez’s college basketball career is not done just yet.

The Saint Martin’s senior guard and consensus All-West Region selection is the only GNAC men’s basketball player selected to take part in the 2019 Reese’s Division II College All-Star Game. The annual showcase for Division II talent, presented by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), will take place on Friday, Mar. 29, in Evansville, Indiana in conjuction with the Division II Elite Eight.

Chavez is one of just two West Region players named to either of the 10-man teams. Players were selected from each of the nation’s eight regions and all have earned all-region honors. He is the 11th player all-time from the GNAC selected to play in the game and the first Saint Martin’s player since Blake Poole in 2011. Western Washington’s Taylor Stafford represented the GNAC in last year’s game.

Chavez was named to the NABC All-West Region First Team for the second consecutive year and also earned D2CCA Second Team All-West Region honors. He helped lead the Saints to a second-straight berth in the NCAA West Regional and a trip to the regional final. Chavez averaged 12.9 points per game and ranked eighth with a .847 free throw percentage. Overcoming early-season injury issues, Chavez emerged to score a season-high 33 points in the regular-season finale at Central Washington on Mar. 2.
