PORTLAND, Ore. – After a pair of seasons where they excelled both on the diamond in the classroom, Saint Martin’s senior outfielder Lindsay Miller and Concordia junior pitcher Mckenzie Smith have earned selection to the 2018 Google Cloud Division II Academic All-District 8 Softball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Miller, named First Team All-GNAC last week, carries a 3.85 grade point average in accounting. She led the Saints with a .382 batting average to go along with 40 runs, 55 hits and 13 RBIs. Her 19 stolen bases led SMU and tied her for third in the GNAC. While selected to the team as an outfielder, Miller spent just as much time in the pitching circle as she amassed a 3.71 earned run average in 22 appearances, including 12 starts.

Smith, who carries a 3.83 GPA in business, was the Cavaliers top pitcher in 2018. An Honorable Mention All-GNAC selection, Smith finished sixth in the GNAC with a 3.16 earned run average while amassing an 8-9 record. In 113 innings, she allowed 79 runs on 118 hits and struck out 79 batters. At the plate, Smith finished with a .279 batting average with 38 hits, seven doubles and a home run.

With selection to the Academic All-District Team, Miller and Smith will now be considered for selection to the Google Cloud Division II Academic All-America Team, which will be announced on Wed., June 6.

Nominees to the Academic All-District 8 Team come from the West’s three Division II conferences: the GNAC, the California Collegiate Athletic Association and the PacWest Conference. To be nominated, a player must be of sophomore standing or higher, be a starter or important reserve player on their team, must be in their second year at the nominating school and have a cumulative GPA or 3.30 or higher.
