AMARILLO, Texas – A windy three days at the La Paloma Golf Club was the final GNAC men’s golf action of the year as Simon Fraser, Western Washington and Concordia’s Nick Huff wrapped up the season at the 2018 NCAA Division II Men’s Golf West/South Central Super Regional in Amarillo, Texas.
Simon Fraser ended the tournament with a team tally of 891 to finish in a tie for 14th place with Cal State San Marcos. Senior Chris Crisologo, the GNAC Player of the Year, paced all GNAC players by shooting a 7-over par 220 to end the tournament in a tie for 26th.
In his tournament debut, sophomore Sy Lovan finished a stroke back of Crisologo, which included a GNAC-low 72 in the final round. Senior Craig Titterington improved in every round of the tournament. Despite opening the event five strokes over par, Titterington managed a 2-over par 73 in the final round.
Leading the efforts for Western Washington was freshman Brody Bonfilio. Bonfilio ended the event in a tie for 37th after carding 4-over par 75 to finish at 9-over par. Bonfilio was one of two GNAC players to fire an even-par 71 during the second day of the tournament. The Vikings, who finished 10 strokes behind Colorado State-Pueblo for 19th place, ended the three-day event with a team total of 919 strokes.
Junior Cody Roth, who tied for 76th, was the second-highest Vikings placer after he ended the tournament with 229 strokes. He opened and closed the event with a 76. After a tough first round that saw him score an 86, reigning GNAC individual champion Ethan Casto closed the tournament with a 2-over par 73 for his final effort.
Representing Concordia as the first-ever Cavalier to play in the NCAA Division II regional tournament, Huff finished the tournament with a 233 for a tie for 91st place. He along with Bonfilio recorded the lowest second-round scores of all GNAC players at even-par.
St. Mary’s (Texas), the tournament champion, is joined by Cal Baptist, Holy Names, Colorado Springs, Colorado Christian and individuals George Markham (Colorado School of Mines) and Elis Svard (Cal State Monterey Bay) for participation in the 2018 NCAA Division II Championships, which begin on May 21 in Muscle Shoals, Ala., at The Shoals Golf Club.
