PORTLAND, Ore. – After a Great Northwest Athletic Conference season that saw Simon Fraser win the league by 11 points, six Clan players have been selected for the 2018 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-West Region Team.

The recognition didn't stop there, however, as sophomore Matteo Polisi was named the West Region Player of the Year. Polisi finished the season leading the GNAC in points per match (2.61), goals (18) and shots on goal per match (2.11).

He was joined on the first team by three of his teammates in freshman midfielder Connor Glennon, senior midfielder Mamadi Camara and senior defender Michael North. Midfielder Marcello Polisi and defender Joost Mangert also received recognition, landing Second Team All-West Region honors.

Camara, who was named the GNAC Player of the Year earlier in the month, earned first-team honors after assisting his team to its third GNAC title in as many years. No one in the conference tallied more assists than the forward, who finished the season with 13. North, the conference's Defensive Player of the Year, anchored an SFU defense that topped the GNAC in goals allowed (7), goals against average (0.39) and shutouts (12). The senior started all 19 matches and recorded five assists from his defender position.

Glennon patrolled the center of the pitch from his spot as a midfielder and dominated for the duration of the 2018 campaign. The freshman had a flair for the dramatic in his first year on campus, tying for first in the conference in game-winning goals with four. He also finished second in the league in points (38) and goals (16).

In his debut season, defender Joost Mangert was named the GNAC Freshman of the Year last week. Starting every match he appeared in, Mangert impressed night in and night out en route to being named a Second Team All-West Region selection.
