PORTLAND, Ore. - Two impressive wins last week against previously third-ranked Seattle Pacific and Saint Martin's has vaulted Simon Fraser back into the National Soccer Coaches Association's NCAA Division II Top 10.

The Clan moved from No. 4 to No. 1 in this week's NSCAA West Region poll and leaped all the way to No. 7 in the national poll after being unranked since losing earlier this season at home to Northwest Nazarene. TheClan had been ranked as high as No. 7 prior to its loss to the Crusaders.

The NSCAA polls are unofficial as the NCAA will conduct its own regional polls later this month to determine which six teams qualify for the West Regionals.  No automatic berths are awarded to the playoffs.

Simon Fraser defeated Seattle Pacific 5-1 on Thursday, then blanked Saint Martin's 6-0 on Sunday to improve to 9-1 on the season.  Seattle Pacific's loss was its first of the season.  The Falcons are now 7-1-2 and are ranked second in this week's regional poll and 12th in the national poll.

Northwest Nazarene (5-2-3) debuted at No. 8 in the regional poll.  NNU has a 4-0-2 conference record and trails first-place Simon Fraser (5-1) by just one point in the conference standings.

Basso Ranks 13th in Scoring

Simon Fraser forward Carlo Basso ranks 13th in scoring in this week's NCAA Division II national statistical report.

Basso is averaging 2.33 points per game (in games through Saturday, Sept. 29).  He also ranks eighth in total points (21) and total goals (9) and ninth in goals per game (1.00).

Thomas Chameraud of Montana State Billings ranks sixth in total assists (6) and 11th in assists per game (0.67).  NNU goalkeeper Alfredo Ontiveros ranks 14th in save percentage (.846) and 20th in goals against average (0.75).

In team categories, Simon Fraser ranks second in both total goals (34) and goals per game (3.78).  The Clan also ranks ninth in total assists (23).

None of the statistics reflect SFU's 6-0 win over Saint Martin's Sunday.
