COEUR d’ALENE, Idaho – Taking a four-stroke lead into the final day of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Championships presented by Coeur d’Alene Resort, Western Washington notched a two-round total of 586 (296-290) on Day 1 of the tournament.

WWU junior Kyle Schrader paced the field with a 2-under par 140 (71-69), and teammate Chris Hatch also finished in the top-5 with a two-round total of 144 (76-68).

Simon Fraser freshman Kevin Vigna is currently in second place with a two-round total of 142 (75-67), and logged the tournament low round of the day with a 4-under 67 on the par-71, 6,803-yard Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course.

Northwest Nazarene is four strokes behind first-place Western Washington at 590 (290-300), as a trio of top-10 individual marks paced the Crusaders. Mike Delie (146, 72-74) and Justin McAfee (146, 73-73) tied for fifth place, and Nick Hardy checked in at No. 8 with a score of 147 (72-75).

Austin Spicer and Ryan Baumgart of Saint Martin’s finished in fourth and fifth place, with scores of 145 (73-72) and 146 (73-73), respectively. Saint Martin’s sits just two strokes behind NNU with a score of 592 (297-295), and Ben Fosnick was also in the top-10 with a score of 150 (76-74).

SFU is in fourth place as a team with a score of 598 (305-293) after Day 1, as Mike Belle tied Fosnick for 10th at 150 (78-72).

Rounding out the field on Day 1 was Montana State Billings, which sits in fifth place with a team score of 605 (309-296). The Yellowjackets were led by Gage Huft’s ninth-place 149 (75-74). 

The third and final round is set to begin at 8 a.m. and golfers will tee off from Hole 1.
