PORTLAND, Ore. – Two of the top golfers in the GNAC have been honored for their efforts on the greens and in the classroom with selection to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 8 At-Large Team, which was announced on May 11.
Saint Martin’s senior Jared Rasmussen was named to the All-District 8 Men’s At-Large Team while Montana State Billings junior Bailee Dexter was selected to the Academic All-District 8 Women’s At-Large Team.
Rasmussen, who has a 3.95 cumulative grade point average as a mechanical engineering major. He averaged 75.09 strokes per round in eight events and 22 rounds, finishing in the top-10 twice. Rasmussen finished 10th at the GNAC Championship with a three-round score of 220, helping the Saints place third in a tight team competition. His top finish came in the Ann Swanson Cup in September where he shot a two-round score of 144.
Dexter, who has a 3.94 GPA as an English major, was one of four MSUB players named Second Team All-GNAC. Dexter was the second-leading golfer for the Yellowjackets with a scoring average of 79.47 over 17 rounds. She twice matched her career low-round score with a 74 and had a personal best low two-round total of 150 at the Rocky Mountain College Fall Invitational in October. Earlier this year, Dexter was inducted into the MSUB’s Chi Alpha Sigma National Honor Society chapter. Dexter placed 19th at the GNAC Golf Championships, helping lead the Ywellowjackets to a tie for third place.
Three other athletes from GNAC schools made the at-large teams in sports not sponsored by the conference. Senior Lauren Glover of the Seattle Pacific gymnastics program was honored with a 3.92 GPA as an accounting and French major. Junior Karisa Stapp of Western Washington’s rowing program has a 3.85 GPA an an accounting office. Senior Michael Fehrenbach of Alaska's skiing team was selected with a 4.00 GPA as a mechanical engineering.
All five student-athletes now advance to the Academic All-America At-Large ballot, which will be announced on Wed., June 7.
To qualify for the Academic All-District and All-America programs, a nominee must be of sophomore standing or better, be a starter or improve reserve player on the team, been at the nominating institution for at least one year and carry a minimum 3.30 cumulative GPA or greater.
