GNAC Men's 2009-10 Basketball Players-of-the-Week

Week of Nov. 16-22: Chris Banchero, Seattle Pacific (G, 6-1, 185, Jr., Seattle, WA - O'Dea) was selected the Most Valuable Player after leading the Falcons to a pair of 18-point victories in the Sodexo Tip-Off tournament at Brougham Pavilion. Banchero had 42 points, nearly a quarter of the Falcons' total. He also had seven rebounds, four assists and four steals, connecting on 12 of 26 shots and 17 of 18 free throws in the two victories.

Walker Barkdoll

Week of Nov. 23-29: Brandon Walker, Alaska Anchorage (G, 6-3, Jr., Hayward, CA - Bishop O'Dowd) and Brian Barkdoll, Northwest Nazarene (C, 6-10, 253, Jr., Portland, OR - Central Catholic). . .Walker put up some amazing numbers considering the quality of the opposition, scoring 69 points - 27 against Washington State and 21 against both Nicholls State and Houston - to lead UAA to a fourth-place finish in the Great Alaska Shootout. His shooting percentages were particularly impressive as he shot 66.7 percent (24 of 36) from the floor, 62.5 percent from the three-point line (10-16) and 84.6 on free throws (11-13). He also led the Seawolves with 17 rebounds and three steals and also had seven assists in earning all-tournament honors. . .Barkdoll led the Crusaders to the title in their own Thanksgiving Classic, scoring 34 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. He made 13 of 18 shots, including 10 of 11 in a 15-point win over Dixie State as NNU improved to 3-0 on the season.

Poole Banchero

Week of Nov. 30-Dec. 6: Blake Poole, Saint Martin's (F, 6-5, 275, Jr., Eugene, OR - Shelton) and Chris Banchero, Seattle Pacific (G, 6-1, 185, Jr., Seattle, WA - O'Dea). . .Poole scored 55 points and had 32 rebounds as the Saints split two games in Phoenix. The Saint forward shot 70 percent from the floor (21-30) and also had eight assists. Seventeen of his rebounds came at the offensive end. On the season, he is the GNAC leader in scoring and rebounding. . .Banchero scored 28 points, 20 in a 78-72 win over top-ranked BYU-Hawaii. Banchero made 14 of 19 shots, including crucial back-to-back baskets inside the final two minutes against the Seasiders. He also had eight assists and three steals in earning all-tournament honors.

Week of Dec. 7-13: Casey Robinson, Alaska Anchorage (F, 6-6, Jr., Manila, UT) led the Seawolves offensively and defensively to a pair of victories in the UAF Glacier Classic. At the offensive end, he scored 30 points, converting on 10 of 20 shots, including six of 12 three-pointers, and had four rebounds. On the defensive end, he had five rebounds and six steals and helped hold the two opposing starting power forwards to a combined six points on two of eight shooting. Robinson and his teammates held Grand Canyon scoreless for the first nine minutes and to a total of 10 first-half points in Saturday's 67-38 victory.

Week of Dec. 14-21: Parrish West, Alaska Fairbanks (G, 6-5, 190, Jr., Chicago, IL - Highland CC) scored 44 points and also had 12 rebounds, six assists and four steals in wins over Chaminade and Western New Mexico in the AT&T Jamboree at Anchorage. West had 27 points on 13 of 16 shooting and also had seven rebounds and four steals, rallying the Nanooks from a five-point halftime deficit in a 83-77 win over Chaminade, then netted 17 points and also had six assists and five rebounds in a 13-point win over Western New Mexico.

Week of Dec. 28-Jan. 3: Morris Anderson, Western Washington (G, 6-3, Sr., Federal Way, WA - Highline CC) scored 35 points and also had 13 assists, eight rebounds and five steals in leading the Vikings to wins over Dixie State and SUNY - Geneseo as Western extended its winning streak to 12 games, equaling the sixth longest streak in GNAC history. Anderson made 12 of 23 shots, including seven of 16 three-pointers in the two contests. He had 17 of his 24 points in the second half as WWU rallied from an 11-point deficit to defeat Dixie State 81-73. The Viking guard then scored all 11 of his points during a 28-6 run as Western built an early 33-11 lead and also had 11 assists in a 12-point win over SUNY-Geneseo.

Clift Poole

Week of Jan. 4-10: Jon Clift, Central Washington (G, 5-10, Sr., Spokane, WA - Ferris) and Blake Poole, Saint Martin's (F, 6-5, Jr., Eugene, OR - Sheldon). . .Clift led the Wildcats to two wins, scoring 34 points including a career-high 23 in a four-point road win at Northwest Nazarene. In a critical junction of the game, he scored eight straight points to rally the Wildcats from a four-point deficit. Clift also had four rebounds, four assists and two steals. . .Poole scored 54 points and also had 26 rebounds, nine assists and five steals as the Saints split two contests, beating nationally 14 th ranked Western Washington in triple overtime before losing to No. 17 Seattle Pacific. Poole had 30 points and 14 rebounds against WWU, including his first three-pointer of the season to force the third overtime session. He then had 2 4 points and 12 rebounds against the Falcons, earning his league-best eighth double-double of the season.

Week of Jan. 11-17: Drew Eisinger, Northwest Nazarene (G, 6-3, 170, Jr., Mill Creek, WA - Jackson) scored 47 points, including a NNU season high 33 in a 101-86 win at Western Oregon. Eisinger made 14 of 23 shots, including his last eight attempts against WOU. He also made five of six treys and 14 of 15 foul shots. His 33-point total is the second highest this winter in the GNAC. He also added eight rebounds, seven assists and a team-high six steals.

Larrieu Schmidt

Week of Jan. 18-24: Brandon Larrieu, Seattle Pacific (W, 6-0, 175, Sr., Puyallup, WA - Franklin Pierce) and Matt Schmidt, Western Oregon (F, 6-6, Sr., Keizer, OR - McNary). . .Larrieu scored 34 points and also had seven assists and four steals as the Falcons opened up a two-game lead in the GNAC race in the loss column with wins at Western Washington and at home against Montana State Billings. Larrieu scored a team-high 18 points against Western Washington, including a fadeaway jumper with 1:12 left to snap a 66-66 tie in a 73-66 victory. He then added 16 points against MSUB, connecting on four of six treys. For the week, he made 13 of 23 shots, six of 11 from the three-point line. . .Schmidt scored 36 points, shooting 71.4 percent from the floor (10-14), 75 percent from the three-point line (3-4) and 86.7 percent from the free throw line (13-15) to lead the Wolves to a road sweep in Alaska. The WOU forward scored 22 in a 15-point win at Fairbanks and had 14 in a 11-point win at Anchorage as WOU became just the seventh team in GNAC history to earn a sweep on their Alaska road swing. On the season, Schmidt leads the Wolves and ranks 14 th in the conference in scoring averaging 13 ½ points per game.

Webb

Week of Jan. 25-31: Derrick Webb, Western Washington (F, 6-3, 185, Sr., Port Orchard, WA - South Kitsap & Highline CC) scored 73 points, including 40 in a 112-78 home win over Western Oregon and 33 in a 100-75 road victory at Montana State Billings. His total is the third highest two-game point total in GNAC history. Webb, who is shooting 50.2 percent on the season, made 25 of 32 shots (78.1 percent), including 14 of 19 three-pointers as he improved his season percentage from the arc to 40.4 percent. He was also nine of 10 from the foul line and had 14 rebounds, six assists and two steals while turning the ball over once in 75 minutes. His 40-point effort against WOU equaled the 10 th highest single-game total in GNAC history.

Week of Feb. 1-7: Rico Myles, Western Oregon (F, 6-7, Sr., Los Angeles, CA - Crenshaw & Morgan State) scored 42 points and had 23 rebounds to lead the Wolves to three-point wins over Saint Martin's and Central Washington. He had 29 points and 12 rebounds in a 80-77 road win at Saint Martin's. He then had 13 points and 11 rebounds in a 77-74 home win against Central Washington and also made a crucial block to set up a game-winning three-point shot by teammate Blair Wheadon. Myles shot 62.1 percent from the floor (18-29) in the two contests.

Cook Maynard

Week of Feb. 8-14: JC Cook, Central Washington (G, 6-1, 190, Jr., Canby, OR - Clackamas CC) and Nashorn Maynard, Alaska Fairbanks (F, 6-5, 210, Jr., St. Paul's, St. Kitts). . .Cook scored 41 points and had seven rebounds as the Wildcats won a pair of road games in Alaska. Cook made 16 of 30 shots, eight of 18 from the three-point line. He scored 14 of his game-high 19 points in the second half in Saturday's win at Anchorage making four of nine second-half three-pointers including one to give CWU a 51-40 lead with 5:45 remaining. . .Maynard scored 59 points and also had 22 rebounds in 12 and 11-point losses to CWU and Western Washington. He had 30 points and 12 rebounds against the Vikings becoming the seventh player in the conference (and the third Nanook) to score 30 in a single game this season. Maynard shot at a 60 percent clip (21-35) from the floor and 85 percent (17-20) from the foul line. Sixteen of his 22 rebounds came off the offensive glass, including 11 (one short of the GNAC single-game record) versus Western Washington.

Week of Feb. 15-21: Ryan Sweet, Seattle Pacific (P, 6-7, 215, Jr., Port Orchard, WA - South Kitsap & Whatcom CC) scored 23 points and also had 27 rebounds, six assists and five steals to lead the Falcons to narrow wins over Western Washington and Montana State Billings. Twice, Sweet set career highs in rebounds, pulling down 13 in Thursday's 67-65 home win over Western Washington and 14 in Saturday's 78-75 road victory at Montana State Billings. Sweet, who also had 18 points against MSUB to record his fifth double-double of the season, had the decisive points against the Vikings making two free throws with 44 seconds left to give SPU a 66-65 lead. Then following a missed shot by the Vikings' Morris Anderson, he grabbed the rebound and made one of two free throws with 13 seconds left as SPU scored the game's final five points to overcome a three-point deficit.

Week of Feb. 22-28: Rob Diederichs, Seattle Pacific (W, 6-8, Sr., Shoreline, WA - Shorewood) had 30 assists as the Falcons wrapped up their fourth GNAC title in nine years with wins over Central Washington and Saint Martin's. Diederichs, who had only three turnovers in the two contests, set a GNAC single-game record with 19 assists in Thursday's 100-92 home win against the Wildcats then recorded his fifth double-digit assist game of the season with 11 in a 89-76 road victory at Lacey. Diederichs has averaged 10.2 assists in his last six games to raise his season average to a GNAC-best 6.4 per contest. In addition to leading SPU in assists, he also had team-bests for rebounds (18) and steals (3) in the two victories. He took only five shots, making four and was perfect (4 of 4) from the foul line. His only miss was a three-pointer.

Jackson Jenkins

Week of March 1-7: DaVell Jackson, Montana State Billings (G, 6-1, Sr., Las Vegas, NV) and Emmanuel Jenkins, Alaska Fairbanks (G, 6-0, Sr., Tacoma, WA - Franklin Pierce). . .Jackson scored 46 points, including 34 in a 92-85 win at Central Washington. He made 17 of 27 shots, including both of his three-point attempts. He also had nine rebounds, nine assists and four steals in the two contests. . .Jenkins scored 47 points to lead the Nanooks to home wins against Seattle Pacific and Northwest Nazarene. He had 29 points against the Falcons as UAF rallied from a 18-point second-half deficit to earn a 113-105 overtime victory. He had 18 against the Crusaders including the go-ahead basket with 15 seconds left. Jenkins also had nine assists and seven rebounds in the two victories.
