FIRST HALF ENDS WITH FALCONS, VIKINGS SHOWDOWN: As teams hit the halfway point of the GNAC season, the conference’s top two teams are set for a showdown on Saturday that could determine the path to the regular-season championship.

Seattle Pacific and Western Washington face each other on Thursday at Royal Brougham Pavilion. The two squads not only come into the contest for first and second place in the conference standings, but also with lengthy winning streaks.

After losing their first four games of the season, the Falcons enter the week on a 12-game winning streak that has seen the team amass a 12-4 overall record and an 8-0 conference mark. During the streak, SPU had outscored opponents by 15.3 points per game and shot 57.2 percent from the field. In the eight conference games, SPU is outscoring opponents by 14.3 points per game.

While the Falcons have no scorers in the GNAC top-10, they have four of their five regular starters averaging more than 10 points per game. The group is led by sophomore guard Divant’e Moffitt and his 14.7 points per game.

Western Washington enters Thursday’s matchup on an eight-game win streak, taking its last loss in a close 77-74 defeat to Simon Fraser in the GNAC opener on Dec. 3. The Vikings enter the game with a 12-4 record and a game behind SPU at 7-1 in conference play.

In the eight-game win streak, the Vikings have been equally as impressive offensively. They are outscoring opponents during the streak by an average of 18.6 points per game and have outrebounded teams by an average of five per contest.

Western Washington has one scorer in the GNAC top-10 in senior forward Trevor Jasinsky, who is 10th 15.3 points per game. Sophomore forward Jalen Green has been impressive during the win streak, averaging 16.4 points and 6.5 rebounds per game in the eight games.

OFFICIATING APPRECIATION WEEK: The game can’t be played without the men and women in stripes. The GNAC and its 11 schools will take time out to recognize those who keep order on the courts.

The GNAC’s winter Officiating Appreciation Week will take place from January 27 to February 2, with Saint Martin’s, Seattle Pacific and Western Oregon honoring officials the following week at those school’s home games.

The Officiating Appreciation Week is part of a nationwide effort by NCAA Division II schools and conferences, the Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) and the Division 2 Athletic Directors Association (D2ADA). The effort is designed to not only recognize officials for what they do in all sports but also to encourage student-athletes to consider officiating following their competitive careers.

Green led the Yellowjackets to a split at the Puget Sound schools with 57 points and six assists. Green tied the GNAC single-game record with 12 three-pointers made in Thursday’s 96-67 rout of Saint Martin’s. He matched the mark set by Kyle Fossman of Alaska Anchorage in 2014. It is also the most by an NCAA player this season in all divisions. Green scored 38 points in the win, shooting 13 of 18 from the field and 12 of 17 from outside. Green then added 19 points in Saturday’s 83-72 loss at Seattle Pacific. For the week, Green shot 57.6 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from three-point range.

ALASKA
• The Nanooks scored a road split last week, dropping an 83-75 decision at Northwest Nazarene on Thursday before taking a 78-60 win from Central Washington on Saturday.

• Junior guard Shadeed Shabazz scored 30 points in each game last week, his fourth and fifth 30-plus point games of the season. Shabazz scored 30 to go with two assists and two steals at Northwest Nazarene. He was just short of a triple-double at Central Washington with totals of 30 points, 13 rebounds and seven steals. For the week Shabazz shot 42.2 percent from the field and was 18 of 20 from the free-throw line. Shabazz leads the GNAC and is 10th in Division II with 23.2 points per game. He also leads the league and is second nationally with 3.31 steals per game.

• Senior guard Spencer Sweet had another strong week with 33 points on the road trip, shooting 54.5 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from three-point range. Sweet opened with 16 points at Northwest Nazarene before adding 17 points at Central Washington on 6 of 9 from the field and 4 of 6 from outside. Sweet is averaging 13.5 points per game and is fifth in the GNAC with 2.4 three-pointers made per game.

• Junior guard Markel Banks added 20 points in the two games, 16 of those coming at Central Washington on 5 of 8 from the field. Banks is averaging 7.9 points per game.

• Alaska enters the week averaging 74.2 points and 30.8 rebounds per game. The Nanooks are second in the GNAC with eight steals per game while ranking third in the league and 19th in Division II with a .783 free throw percentage.

• Alaska plays at intra-state rival Alaska Anchorage on Tuesday before playing at Montana State Billings on Saturday.

ALASKA ANCHORAGE
• The Seawolves dropped both road games last week, falling 84-50 at Central Washington on Thursday and 80-69 at Northwest Nazarene on Saturday.

• Senior guard Niko Bevens led UAA with 29 points in the two games. Bevens scored 15 points at Central Washington before adding 14 points at Northwest Nazarene on 4 of 7 from the field and 3 of 6 from three-point range. He also had three rebounds in each game. Bevens leads Alaska Anchorage in scoring at 13.3 points per game. He leads the GNAC and is 11th in Division II with 3.63 three-pointers made per game while also ranking 15th in Division II with a .460 three-point percentage.

• Junior forward Oggie Pantovic contributed 21 points and 12 rebounds on the road trip, connecting on 50 percent from the field and 71.4 percent at the free-throw line. Pantovic opened with 10 points and six rebounds at Northwest Nazarene before finishing with 11 points and six rebounds at Central Washington on 4 of 7 from the field. Pantovic is averaging 12.1 points per game.

• Junior guard DeAndre Osuigwe punctuated his week with a near double-double of seven points and seven rebounds at Central Washington. Osuigwe also had five assists on the week, four at Northwest Nazarene, and ranks second in the GNAC at 4.7 assists per contest.

• Alaska Anchorage is averaging 76.1 points and 33.3 rebounds per game. The Seawolves lead the GNAC and rank 20th in Division II with 17.7 assists per game. They also lead the league and rank 12th in Division II with 11.5 three-pointers made per game and are 20th nationally with a 1.46 assist/turnover ratio.

• Alaska Anchorage will host in-state rival Alaska on Tuesday before heading south to play at Montana State Billings on Thursday.

CENTRAL WASHINGTON
• Central Washington procured a home split last week, scoring an 84-50 win over Alaska Anchorage on Thursday before taking a 78-60 loss to Alaska on Saturday.

• Junior forward Maquis Gilson led the Wildcats with 22 points and 14 rebounds last week, shooting 75 percent from the field. Gilson did most of his damage against Alaska Anchorage, finishing with 18 points and eight rebounds on 7 of 9 from the field and 4 of 5 from the free-throw line. He scored four points and had six rebounds against Alaska. Gilson enters the week averaging 5.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game.

• Sophomore forward Tariq Woody finished with 21 points and eight rebounds in the two games. He came off the bench for 13 points and six rebounds against Alaska Anchorage, hitting on 4 of 7 from the field and 5 of 6 from the three-point line. Woody finished with eight points on 4 of 5 from the field against Alaska. Woody is averaging 10.4 points per game.

• Senior guard Davon Bolton matched Woody’s 21 points, connecting for 11 points against UAA and 10 points against UAF. He connected on 8 of 19 from the field and also had seven assists in the two games. Bolton is averaging 9.3 points per game.

• Senior guard Tyler Green was named the GNAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after he finished with 57 points in two games, shooting 57.6 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from three-point range. Green tied the GNAC single-game record with 12 three-pointers made against SMU, tying the mark set by Kyle Fossman of Alaska Anchorage in 2014. Green finished with 38 points in the game. He then added 19 points at Seattle Pacific. Green is fifth in the GNAC with 16.5 points per game. He is 11th in Division II with 152 three-pointers attempted and 13th with 3.56 three-pointers made per game.

• Sophomore forward Brendan Howard connected for 36 points and 13 rebounds, shooting 52.2 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from three-point range. Howard finished with 16 points and six rebounds at Saint Martin’s, making 6 of 10 from the field to go with three assists. He then added 20 points and seven rebounds at Seattle Pacific. Howard is second in the GNAC and 26th in Division II in scoring at 21.6 points per game.

• Junior forward Zharon Richmond finished with 32 points and 22 rebounds in the two games. He notched a double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds at Saint Martin’s before finishing with 21 points and eight rebounds at Seattle Pacific. Richmond is averaging 17.6 points and eight rebounds per game in eight games this season.

• Montana State Billings is averaging 76.8 points per game and ranks third in the GNAC with 37.6 rebounds per game. The Yellowjackets rank second in Division II in fewest fouls (206) and fourth in personal fouls per game (12.9).

• Montana State Billings opens a four-game homestand this week, hosting Alaska Anchorage on Thursday and Alaska on Saturday.

NORTHWEST NAZARENE
• Northwest Nazarene has won three in a row after a home sweep last week, taking an 83-75 win from Alaska on Thursday and an 80-69 win from Alaska Anchorage on Saturday.

• Junior guard Ezekiel Alley led the way off the bench again with 43 points and 10 rebounds, shooting 60.9 percent from the field, 55.6 percent from three-point range and 90.9 percent from the free-throw line. Alley opened with 22 points against Alaska, making 8 of 13 from the field and 5 of 6 from the free-throw line. He then added 21 points and seven rebounds against Alaska Anchorage on 6 of 10 from the field and 4 of 5 from outside. Alley leads the Nighthawks and is sixth in the GNAC with 16.3 points per game.

• Senior guard Jayden Bezzant registered 33 points in the two games shooting 57.1 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from three-point range. A quiet seven-point performance against Alaska yielded to a 26-point outburst against UAA, shooting 9 of 14 from the field and 4 of 7 from long range. Bezzant is averaging 13 points per game.

• Senior guard Olamilekan “Spider” Adetunji pulled down 23 rebounds over the week and finished just short of a double-double with nine points and 17 boards against Alaska. Adetunji is fourth in the GNAC with 6.9 rebounds per game and 2.77 offensive rebounds per game.

• Northwest Nazarene is averaging 72.8 points and 37.2 rebounds per game. The Nighthawks lead the GNAC in defensive rebounds per game (27.46). They are also eighth in Division II in fewest turnovers (174) and 15th in fewest fouls (228).

• Northwest Nazarene hits the road this week for games at Western Oregon on Thursday and Concordia on Saturday.

SAINT MARTIN’S
• Saint Martin’s losing streak is at nine games following an 87-63 loss to Seattle Pacific on Tuesday and a 96-67 loss to Montana State Billings on Thursday.

• Junior guard Demonte Malloy led the Saints once again with 34 points and 16 rebounds in the two games, shooting 53.8 percent from the field. Malloy opened with a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds against Seattle Pacific on 8 of 12 from the field. He then added 15 points and five rebounds against Montana State Billings. Malloy is ninth in the GNAC in scoring at 15.4 points per game.

• Sophomore guard John Moore connected for 27 points and 10 rebounds, finishing with 13 points and six rebounds against Seattle Pacific along with a 14-point, four-rebound performance against Montana State Billings. Moore shot 10 of 19 from the field in the two games and is averaging 8.2 points per game.

• Senior forward Marky Adams had 14 points, 16 rebounds and three blocks last week, paced by eight points, 11 rebounds and two blocks against Seattle Pacific. Adams leads the GNAC with 1.76 blocks per game.

• Saint Martin’s enters the week averaging 73.9 points per game and is second in the GNAC with 37.6 rebounds per game. The Saints rank 25th in Division II with 14.8 personal fouls per game.

• The four-game homestand for Saint Martin’s continues with games against Simon Fraser on Thursday and Western Washington on Saturday.

SEATTLE PACIFIC
• The win streak soared to 12 games for Seattle Pacific with an 87-63 win over Saint Martin’s on Tuesday and an 83-72 victory over Montana State Billings on Saturday.

• Junior guard Harry Cavell led the Falcons in the two wins with 36 points and 13 rebounds, shooting 60.9 percent from the field. Cavell opened the week with 17 points and six rebounds at Saint Martin’s on 5 of  8 from the field. He then added 19 points, seven rebounds and three blocks against Montana State Billings. Cavell is averaging 11.8 points per game and is sixth in the GNAC with 6.9 rebounds per game.

• Sophomore guard Divant’e Moffitt went off for 30 points against Montana State Billings, connecting on 13 of 22 from the field and 3 of 4 from the free-throw line to lead the Falcons to the victory. He finished the week with 35 points in the two games. Moffitt enters the week leading SPU with 14.7 points per game.

• Freshman forward Shaw Anderson scored 27 points and had seven rebounds, shooting 55.6 percent from the field. Anderson opened with 11 points, three rebounds and five assists at Saint Martin’s before registering 16 points and four rebounds against Montana State Billings. Anderson is averaging 12.9 points per game and is seventh in the GNAC with a .574 field goal percentage.

• Seattle Pacific is fourth in the GNAC with 78.9 points per game and is averaging 33.4 rebounds per game. The Falcons lead the GNAC and rank 23rd in Division II with a .498 field goal percentage and are second in the GNAC and 13th in Division II with a .787 free-throw percentage.

• The Falcons moved up one spot to No. 5 in the latest D2SIDA West Region Rankings.

• Seattle Pacific continues a three-game homestand this week with a big matchup against Western Washington on Thursday and another key meeting with Simon Fraser on Saturday.

SIMON FRASER
• Simon Fraser split its home contests last week, collecting a 72-61 win over Concordia on Saturday before dropping a 94-80 game to Western Oregon on Monday (moved from Thursday due to snow).

• Senior guard Othniel Spence led the Clan with 38 points and 15 rebounds in the two games, shooting 57.9 percent from the field and 58.8 percent from three-point range. Spence scored 19 points in each game, which included a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds against Concordia. Against Western Oregon, Spence eclipsed the 1,000 career point barrier. Spence is averaging 13.5 points per game and is sixth in the GNAC with 2.24 three-pointers made per game.

• Junior forward Jasdeep Singh added 37 points and 12 rebounds in the two games. Singh opened with 16 points and seven rebounds against Concordia and then added 21 points and five rebounds against Western Oregon on 8 of 17 from the field. Singh is fourth in the GNAC with 17.4 points per game and seventh with 2.12 three-pointers made per game.

• Senior guard Michael Provenzano had 27 points, led by a line of 18 points and five assists against Western Oregon. He connected on 7 of 11 from the field for the game and 11 of 17 for the week. Provenzano is averaging 11.9 points per game and is third in the GNAC with 3.80 assists per game.

• Simon Fraser is third in the GNAC in scoring with 80.2 points per game and is averaging 37.1 rebounds per game. The Clan leads the GNAC and ranks 23rd in Division II with nine steals per game.

• Simon Fraser will take the Puget Sound road trip this week, playing at Saint Martin’s on Thursday and at Seattle Pacific on Saturday.

WESTERN OREGON
• Western Oregon split on its northern road trip, taking an 86-79 overtime loss to Western Washington on Saturday before winning Monday at Simon Fraser, 94-80, in a game moved from Thursday due to snow.

• Junior guard Tyreek Price led the Wolves with 32 points in the two games, shooting 70.6 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from three-point range in 45 bench minutes. He did his most damage at Simon Fraser, finishing with 26 points on 10 of 19 from the field and 6 of 9 from the arc. In 14 games this season, all in reserve duty, Price is averaging 7.6 points per game.

• Senior guard Dalven Brushier connected for 29 points and dished six assists last week. Brushier opened the week with 16 points and five assists at Western Washington. He then finished with 13 points at Simon Fraser on 5 of 9 from the field and 3 of 6 from three-point range. Brushier is third in the GNAC in scoring at 18.9 points per game and is tied for fourth with 3.50 assists per game.

• Sophomore forward John Morrill-Keeler notched 26 points and 10 rebounds as he shot 65 percent from the field. Morrill-Keeler opened with 14 points and six rebounds at Western Oregon, shooting 7 of 13 from the field. He then connected for 12 points and four rebounds on 6 of 7 from the field at Simon Fraser. Morrill-Keeler is averaging 7.6 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.

• Western Oregon leads the GNAC and is 25th in Division II with 86.6 points per game. The Wolves lead the GNAC and rank 19th in Division II with a .501 field goal percentage and rank 13th nationally with 11.5 three-pointers made per game.

• The Wolves will have a short week in their return home, hosting Northwest Nazarene on Thursday and Central Washington on Saturday.

WESTERN WASHINGTON
• Western Washington ran its win streak to eight games with a home sweep, beating Concordia 82-66 on Thursday before surviving an 86-79 overtime win over Western Oregon on Saturday.

• Sophomore forward Jalen Green led the Vikings with 41 points, 18 rebounds, six assists and five blocks in the two games. He shot 59.1 percent from the field, 50 percent from three-point range and 86.7 percent from the free-throw line. Green opened with a double-double of 24 points and 13 rebounds against Concordia on 7 of 11 from the field and 10 of 11 from the free-throw line to go with three assists and three blocks. He closed with 17 points and five rebounds against Western Oregon. Green is averaging 14 points per game and is second in the GNAC with 1.75 blocked shots per game.

• Freshman guard D’Angelo Minnis added 32 points last week, shooting 50 percent from the field. After scoring 11 points against Concordia, Minnis came up with 21 points and five rebounds in 43 minutes against Western Oregon, shooting 8 of 13 from the field. Minnis is averaging 12.2 points per game and is seventh in the GNAC with 3.25 assists per contest.

• Senior guard/forward Siaan Rojas finished with 28 points and 12 rebounds, led by his 16 points and eight rebounds against Concordia. He added 12 points and four rebounds against Western Oregon and finished the week shooting 9 of 15  from the field. Rojas enters the week averaging 10.2 points per game.

• The Vikings rank second in the GNAC with 83.1 points per game and lead the league with 39.2 rebounds per game. Western also leads the GNAC and is fifth in Division II with five blocked shots per game.

• Western Washington moved three spots into a three-way tie at No. 6 in the latest D2SIDA West Region Rankings.

• The Vikings are in the Puget Sound region this week, playing at Seattle Pacific on Thursday and Saint Martin’s on Saturday.
