GNAC Players, Teams Honored For Academic Achievement

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A total of 16 student-athletes and two GNAC squads are being recognized in a pair of academic success programs in men’s basketball by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).

The 16 players from Concordia, Seattle Pacific and Western Washington were selected to the NABC’s Honors Court. The program recognizes men’s basketball players who are of junior or senior academic standing and have a cumulative 3.2 grade point average or better. Players must have been at the nominating institution with an NABC member coach for at least one year.

In addition, Concordia and Seattle Pacific were selected for NABC Team Academic Awards, which honors teams who finish with a cumulative 3.0 team grade point average or better at the end of the 2018-19 academic year.

Seattle Pacific won the GNAC Championships and advanced to the finals of the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball West Regional, losing to eventual national runner-up Point Loma. The Falcons finished the season at 22-7 overall and finished second in the GNAC regular-season standings at 16-4. Eight of the nine SPU student-athletes named to the NABC Honors Court were also named in February to the GNAC Men’s Basketball All-Academic Team.

Concordia finished the year with an 11-17 record and was ninth in the GNAC standings at 6-14. Three of the Cavaliers’ six Honor sCourt honorees were also named to the GNAC All-Academic Team.

Of the 16 GNAC honorees, three were selected in February to the Google Cloud/CoSIDA Division II Academic All-District 8 Team: Concordia senior guard Jarrett Gray, Seattle Pacific senior forward Sam Simpson and Western Washington junior forward Trevor Jasinsky.
