ROLLA, Mo. – Alaska Anchorage senior Sekou ‘Suki’ Wiggs picked up another major honor Tuesday, earning the U.S. Basketball Writers Association’s Division II National Player of the Week award after his performance in home victories over nationally ranked Western Washington on Feb. 2 and Simon Fraser on Feb. 4.

The guard totaled 66 points on just 32 field-goal attempts, shooting 7 of 13 from long range and 19 of 23 at the free-throw line, along with 11 rebounds and six assists as The Seawolves extended its winning streak to six games and moved into a first-place tie with Western Washington.

In Thursday’s 87-79 victory over the 13th-ranked Vikings, the Seattle native scored 32 points (12-17 FG, 2-4 3FG) in 32 minutes and committed just one turnover to help Seawolves to their first win over a ranked team this year. He followed with 34 points in 30 minutes and a team-high seven boards in Saturday’s 73-45 victory over the Clan, while contributing to a record-setting defensive effort that held SFU to 13 first-half points, the Seawolves' stingiest first half in 16 years of GNAC play.

With four straight 30-plus scoring efforts, Wiggs has now broken seven school records this year alone, following a junior season that ended with D2CCA Third Team All-America and GNAC Newcomer of the Year honors. The University of Idaho transfer leads the GNAC and ranks fourth nationally with 24.7 points per game, on pace to become the Seawolves’ career scoring average leader as well.

This is the second time this season that a GNAC men's basketball player has been selected for the National Player of the Week honor and the fourth time in 12 weeks that the recipient has come from the West Region. Montana State Billings' Marc Matthews earned the award back on Jan. 3. In addition, Western Washington's Taylor Peacocke earned the Division II Women's Player of the Week award back on Jan. 24.
