PORTLAND, Ore. -  Led by Central Washington's Mark McLaughlin, Great Northwest Athletic Conference players and teams set 34 GNAC records and tied 11 others during the 2013-14 season. 

McLaughlin set six conference marks, including career records for highest scoring average for all games (24.8) and conference games (25.3). 

He also set single-season records for conference games for scoring average (28.2), free throws made (162), free throw attempts (185) and total points (508).  McLaughlin also tied GNAC records for most career 30-point games (14) and most free throws made in a conference game (18).    

Other record setters included Patrick Simon and David Downs of Seattle Pacific, Kyle Fossman and Brian McGill of Alaska Anchorage, Austin Hudson of Montana State Billings and Kevin Davis of Central Washington.

Simon set new conference marks for single-season (60.3) and career three-point percentage (52.7) in conference games.  Downs tied the conference career overall record for career games played with 124.

Fossman and McGill set GNAC single-game records; Fossman for most three-pointers made (12) and McGill for most assists (20).  Fossman alo set a single-season record for most three-pointers made (113).

Hudson set a single game record for most offensive rebounds (13), while Davis set conference game records for most career blocked shots (100) and blocked shot average (2.17).

Alaska Anchorage accounted for a majority of the new team records, setting 12 and tying three. 

Among its new records were single game marks for most three-pointers made, assists and points, and single-season records for most three-point field goals, three-pointers per game, fewest steals allowed and fewest steals per game.

Downs Completes Sweep of All-American Awards

Seattle Pacific guard David Down completed a clean sweep of the four All-American teams as he was named to the 2014 Division II Bulletin All-American team this week. He was selected to the second team.

Earlier he earned first team NABC Coaches and Basketball Times All-American honors and was a second team Daktronics selection.  Downs was also selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-American team.  

Downs finished his career ranked ninth in GNAC history in points (1,786), seventh in three-pointers made (245) and fourth in assists (561).  He also tied the GNAC record for most games played (124). 

Joining Downs on the Division II Bulletin All-American team were Central Washington's Mark McLaughlin, Richard Woodworth and Austin Bragg of Western Washington and Patrick Simon of Seattle Pacific.  There were all honorable mention picks.   

McLaughlin, Simon Earn National Statistical Titles

McLaughlin and SPU’s Patrick Simon won NCAA Division II national statistical titles. 

In the final NCAA Division II national report of the 2013-14 season, McLaughlin finished as the top scorer averaging 27.1 points per game, while Simon’s 50.0 percent three-point percentage led the nation.

McLaughlin is the second GNAC player to win the scoring title in the last four years.  Parrish West of Alaska Fairbanks finished first in 2010-11 with a GNAC-record 27.2 average. 

A Seattle Pacific player won the three-point percentage title for the second year in a row as the Falcon’s Jobi Wall was the national leader last season with a 48.9 average.

GNAC teams also claimed three team national statistical titles.  Seattle Pacific finished first in three-point percentage, shooting 42.4 percent.  Alaska Anchorage was the national leader in both fewest turnovers (8.5) and assist/turnover ratio (2.10).
