PORTLAND, Ore. – After posting a convincing win in its race at the PLU Invitational on Saturday, the Seattle Pacific varsity 4+ is the first GNAC Women’s Rowing Crew of the Week to lead the selections for GNAC Player of the Week awards.

The crew of sophomore LeeAnn Arrington (coxswain), senior Amanda Larsen, junior Suzanne Stafford, senior Tamyra Clark-Hoogstrate and sophomore Danielle Johnson finished first in its race by 33 seconds, crossing the line in a time of 7:39.52. The first official competition of the spring for the Falcons, it was the fastest time by any of the fours competing in the regatta. The win was one of seven by the Falcons on the day.

On the diamonds, Western Washington swept both softball awards after going 3-1 against Northwest Nazarene. Senior Tatum Dow was named the Softball Player of the Week after she batted .667 in the four games, going 8 for 12 with two runs, six RBI, two doubles and a home run. Dow’s week was topped by a 3 for 4 effort in Friday’s nightcap, which included a home run and an RBI single.

Junior Anna Kasner earned Softball Pitcher of the Week honors after she allowed four hits and struck out 19 in a pair of complete-game wins. Kasner allowed three hits and struck out nine in Friday’s 4-0 win. She then threw a one-hitter and struck out 10 in Saturday’s 4-0 win.

Montana State Billings senior Tanner Cantwell was named the Baseball Player of the Week after he compiled a .583 batting average in three games against Saint Martin’s. His week was topped by a 4 for 4 effort in Saturday’s lone game, which included a two-run homer in the first and an RBI double in the ninth.

Western Oregon senior Logan Hatley picked up Baseball Pitcher of the Week accolades after he allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out 14 to pick up the complete-game seven-inning win over Central Washington, 3-0. It was Hatley’s first win of the season.

Western Washington also swept the Field Athlete of the Week awards. Junior Avery Lux picked up the Men’s Field Athlete of the Week award after he won the hammer at the Ed Boitano Invitational. His mark of 189 feet is an NCAA Championships provisional qualifier and ranks third in Division II this season.

Senior Amanda Short was named the Women’s Field Athlete of the Week after she won the javelin at the Ed Boitano Invitational. Her mark of 149 feet, 6 inches, is an NCAA Championships provisional qualifier and ranks second in Division II this season.

Western Oregon junior Dominic Giordano was named the Men’s Track Athlete of the Week after he won the steeplechase at the Willamette Opener on Saturday. He captured the event in a time of 9:28.49.

Saint Martin’s freshman Makiya Worthy earned Women’s Track Athlete of the Week honors after winning the 200 meters in 25.74 seconds and placing second in the 100 meters in 12.59 seconds at the Ed Boitano Invitational. The times lead the GNAC after the first week of outdoor competition.

Concordia senior Cammie Decker and Simon Fraser senior Jaya Rampuri shared the Women’s Golf Player of the Week award after both players tied for fifth place with scores of 5-over-par 149.

BASEBALL PLAYER
Tanner Cantwell (Montana State Billings, 1B, 6-0, Sr., Eugene, Ore. – Treasure Valley CC): Cantwell finished with a .583 batting average in three games at Saint Martin’s, going 7 for 12 with three runs, six RBI, four doubles and two home runs. He finished with a .615 on-base percentage and a 1.417 slugging percentage. His lone hit was a two-run homer in the second to start the scoring in a 15-6 win in the opener on Friday. He went 2 for 4 with a run scored in the Friday nightcap. On Saturday, Cantwell went 4 for 4 with a two-run homer in the first, and an RBI double in the ninth in a 12-8 loss. Also Nominated: Cameron McGrath (Central Washington), Jake Wikel (Concordia), John Gonzalez (Northwest Nazarene), Ryne Oshiro (Saint Martin’s), Joshua McIntyre (Western Oregon).

BASEBALL PITCHER
Logan Hatley (Western Oregon, P, 6-6, Sr., Dallas, Ore. – Linn-Benton CC): Hatley hurled a three-hit seven-inning complete-game shutout in a 3-0 win over Central Washington on Saturday as the Wolves and Wildcats split their four-game series. He allowed just one walk and struck out 14, allowed just four base runners and did not allow a runner past second base. The win is Hatley’s first of the season. Also Nominated: Dillon Larsen (Central Washington), Sasha Jabusch (Concordia), Tevin Hall (Montana State Billings), Ben Johnson (Northwest Nazarene), Tanner Inouye (Saint Martin’s).

SOFTBALL PLAYER
Tatum Dow (Western Washington, SS, 5-8, Sr., Issaquah, Wash. – Bellevue Coll.): Dow led the Vikings to three wins over Northwest Nazarene with a .667 batting average, .692 on-base percentage and a 1.083 slugging percentage. She went 8 for 12 with two runs, six RBI, two doubles and a home run. Dow opened by going 2 for 2 with an RBI single in Friday’s 4-0 win in the opener and then went 3 for 4 with a home run and an RBI single in the 9-7 nightcap loss. She went 1 for 2 with an RBI double in Saturday’s 4-0 win in the opener and closed the week by going 2 for 4 with an RBI double and RBI single in the 6-0 nightcap shutout. Also Nominated: Harlee Carpenter (Central Washington), Hannah Self (Concordia), Skyler Jenkins (Montana State Billings), Julia Lucas (Saint Martin’s), Chelsea Hotner (Simon Fraser), Kiley Lynn (Western Oregon).

SOFTBALL PITCHER
Anna Kasner (Western Washington, P, 5-8, Jr., Milton, Wash. – Fife): Kasner was masterful to win two games over Northwest Nazarene. In 19 innings, she allowed just four hits and three walks while striking out 19 in a pair of complete games. Kasner opened with a three-hitter in Friday’s 4-0 victory, walking two and striking out nine. She doubled down with a one-hitter in Saturday’s 4-0 win, allowing one walk while striking out 10. The games are Kasner’s fifth and six shutouts of the season. Also Nominated: Samantha Stanfield (Central Washington), Kate Gillum (Concordia), Brandi Schoessler (Saint Martin’s), Chelsea Hotner (Simon Fraser), Chandler Bishop (Western Oregon).

MEN’S TRACK
Dominic Giordano (Western Oregon, Jr., Lynnwood, Wash. – Concordia Univ.): Giordano opened his indoor season by winning the steeplechase at the Linfield Erik Anderson Memorial Icebreaker in a time of 9:28.49. He led a one-two finish for the Wolves in the event. Also Nominated: Andrew Oslin (Saint Martin’s).

MEN’S FIELD
Avery Lux (Western Washington, Jr., Fort Collins, Colo. – Fossil Ridge): Lux opened the outdoor season by provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championships in the hammer at the Ed Boitano Invitational. His winning mark of 189 feet is third in Division II this season. Also Nominated: Micah Au-Haupu (Saint Martin’s), Nick Sieber (Western Oregon).

WOMEN’S TRACK
Makiya Worthy (Saint Martin’s, Fr., Federal Way, Wash. – Federal Way): Worthy opened her collegiate outdoor career with a pair of top-two finishes in the sprints at the Ed Boitano Invitational. Worthy won the 200 meters in a time of 25.74 seconds and finished second in the 100 meters in 12.59 seconds. She leads the conference in both events. Also Nominated: Jillian Greene (Western Oregon), Sophia Galvez (Western Washington).

WOMEN’S FIELD
Amanda Short (Western Washington, Sr., Lebanon, Ore. – Western Oregon Univ.): Short won the javelin for the Vikings at the Ed Boitano Invitational. Her mark of 149 feet, 6 inches provisionally qualifies Short for the NCAA Championships and is second in Division II this season. Also Nominated: Tiffany Pott (Saint Martin’s).

WOMEN’S GOLF
Cammie Decker (Concordia, Sr., Keizer, Ore. – McNary) and Jaya Rampuri (Simon Fraser, Sr., Coquitlam, B.C. – Charles Best): Decker and Rampuri tied for fifth place at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout with both players carding two-round scores of 5-over-par 149. Decker carded a low-round of 1-over-par 73 on the opening day while Rampuri carded a low of 1-under-par 71 on the second day. Both teams notched top-five finishes. Also Nominated: Kathryn Crimp (Saint Martin’s), Megan Billeter (Western Washington).

WOMEN’S ROWING
Seattle Pacific Varsity 4+: The first-ever GNAC Crew of the Week, the Seattle Pacific varsity 4+ cruised to a win in its race at the PLU Invitational on Saturday. The Falcon’s time of 7:39.52 was 33 seconds better than second-place Western Washington and was the fastest time of all the fours participating in the regatta. The crew consisted of LeeAnn Arrington (coxswain), Amanda Larsen, Suzanne Stafford, Tamyra Clark-Hoogstrate and Danielle Johnson. Also Nominated: Western Washington Varsity 8+.
