PORTLAND, Ore. – Excelling in the classroom and representing the conference’s first and second-place teams, Alaska Anchorage junior forward/center Tennae Voliva and Northwest Nazarene senior guard Avery Albrecht have been selected to the 2019-20 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Division II Academic All-District 8 Women’s Basketball Team.

A total of five student-athletes landed on the All-District 8 Team, which was selected from a pool of players from the GNAC, the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and the PacWest Conference. The GNAC duo is joined by Cal State LA’s Rachael DiRegolo, Cal State San Marcos’ Akayla Hackson and Cal State East Bay’s Madison Schiller.

Voliva, a psychology major with a 3.83 GPA, is averaging 10.2 points and eight rebounds per game. She ranks fourth in the conference with two steals per game and seventh with 25 blocked shots and a .498 field goal percentage as the Seawolves sit in first place with a 15-1 conference record (25-2 overall).

Posting a 3.71 GPA as a marketing major, Albrecht also ranks among the GNAC’s best on both sides of the ball. She is third in the conference with 15.3 points per game, 12th with 5.9 rebounds per game and eighth with 1.8 steals per game and a .494 field goal percentage. She crossed the 1,000-point plateau in her collegiate career in the Nighthawks’ 63-53 win over Western Oregon on Jan. 23.

A First Team All-GNAC selection last year and a unanimous selection to the 2019-20 GNAC Preseason All-Conference Team, Albrecht has led NNU in clinching a spot in the GNAC Championships. The Nighthawks sit in second place behind Alaska Anchorage with a 13-3 conference mark.

Voliva and Albrecht were both named to the 2019-20 GNAC Women’s Basketball All-Academic Team. Albrecht earned the honor for the third straight season while Voliva earned her second selection.

To be eligible for the CoSIDA All-Academic All-America nomination process, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA and must have completed one full calendar year at the nominating institution. Nominated student-athletes must also have participated in at least 50 percent of their teams’ games. Both Voliva and Albrecht will advance to earn consideration for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team, which will be announced in March.
