Madsen, Polisi Prevail, Earn All-American Glory

PORTLAND, Ore. – Saint Martin’s standout Brandon Madsen and Simon Fraser star Matteo Polisi continue to rack up postseason accolades. Madsen earned selection to the 2019 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) Men’s Soccer All-America Second Team while Polisi earned selection to the 2019 United Soccer Coaches Men’s Soccer All-America Second Team.

The 2019 GNAC Player of the Year, Madsen started in all 18 of the Saints’ matches this season, scoring a conference-best 18 goals to go with four assists, totaling 40 points in his senior campaign in Lacey. His 18 goals rank third in Division II and his 40 points rank eighth, making him one of the nation’s top scorers.

Madsen registered six multi-goal matches in 2019. Three of those matches came in one week as he scored six goals and tallied 12 points in three non-conference wins for the Saints, earning him selection as the GNAC Player of the Week during the week of Sept. 16-22. Madsen was unanimously named to the All-GNAC First Team in 2019 as he earned a first-team selection three times in his career.

Madsen climbed the career leaderboard in his final season to end his career as one of the most prolific offensive threats in GNAC history. He is tied for second in conference history with 47 goals and ranks third with 101 points. His 27 goals and 60 points in conference matches also top the career leaderboard.

With his selection to the D2CCA All-America Team, Madsen becomes the first player in Saint Martin’s men’s soccer history to be named an All-American.

Polisi returns to the United Soccer Coaches All-America Team after earning first-team honors last year. Polisi scored eight goals and dished out three assists to finish tied for third in the GNAC with 19 points during his 2019 campaign. The junior midfielder led the GNAC with 3.47 shots per game and ranked tied for fifth with eight assists.

Polisi’s best performance of the year came in the Clan’s conference opener as he scored three goals and had an assist to go with five shots in the Clan’s 5-1 win over Saint Martin’s at home on Oct. 3. Polisi earned First Team All-GNAC honors for the third straight year.

Polisi also climbed the GNAC career leaderboard this year. He ranks eighth in conference history with 36 goals while also ranking seventh with 89 points.
