PORTLAND, Ore. – It’s become an annual tradition for Simon Fraser’s Polisi brothers to garner postseason awards around this time of year. After earning First Team All-GNAC honors for the third straight season, Matteo Polisi was named to the 2019 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II All-West Region First Team.

Polisi scored eight goals and distributed three assists to finish tied for third in the GNAC with 19 points during his 2019 campaign. The junior midfielder led the conference with 3.47 shots per game and ranked tied for fifth with his eight goals. His best performance came in the Clan’s conference opener as he scored three goals and had an assist to go with five shots in the Clan’s 5-1 win over Saint Martin’s at home on Oct. 3.

Marcello Polisi earned Second Team All-West Region honors after earning a First Team All-GNAC selection in 2019. The junior midfielder scored two goals this season, both of which were game-winners.

A trio of Vikings joins Marcello Polisi on the second team, including Jeremiah Lee, the 2019 GNAC Defensive Player of the Year. Lee anchored a Western Washington defense that recorded a GNAC-best eight shutouts this season. Also representing Western Washington is junior midfielder Georg Cholewa and senior forward Christian Rotter, who tied for the conference lead with nine assists apiece.

Rounding out the conference’s selections to the United Soccer Coaches All-West Region Team and earning third-team honors are Concordia sophomore midfielder Nicholas Denley, Western Washington senior forward Ryan Schaefer and Saint Martin’s senior forward Brandon Madsen, the 2019 GNAC Player of the Year.

The United Soccer Coaches All-Region teams are selected through voting by member coaches in their respective divisions. Matteo Polisi and others receiving first-team honors will move forward for consideration for the 2019 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II All-America Team, which will be announced on Wednesday, Dec. 11.
