PORTLAND, Ore. – It was Western Oregon’s turn last week. This week Central Washington laid claim to its share of the GNAC football championship and proceeded to sweep the GNAC Player of the Week awards.

Sophomore quarterback Christian Moore earned the Football Offensive Player of the Week honor with his 258 yards of total offense in the Wildcats’ 51-14 win over Simon Fraser, which clinched a share of the team’s third consecutive title. He completed 16 of 34 passes for 234 yards and four touchdowns while rushing five times for 24 yards and a fifth touchdown.

Senior linebacker Tevin Gray earned the Defensive Player of the Week award after he came up with five tackles, including four solo tackles, a forced fumble and returned a blocked punt two yards for the game’s first touchdown. Sophomore kicker Patrick Hegarty earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors after he made 6 of 7 point-after attempts and also connected on a 27-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

On the pitch, Seattle Pacific sophomore Alden Massey was named the final Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week of 2019 for his goal and two assists in the Falcons’ 4-1 win at Montana State Billings on Thursday. Simon Fraser freshman defender Jorick Schilken was named the Defensive Player of the Week for his role in the Clan’s 1-0 win over Western Washington on Thursday and 2-1 win over Saint Martin’s on Saturday, keeping the Clan’s playoff hopes alive.

Alaska Anchorage sophomore setter Ellen Floyd was selected as the Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for her 91 assists, 29 digs, nine blocks and seven kills in road wins over Western Washington and Simon Fraser. Floyd finished with 43 assists, 14 digs, four blocks and two kills in the five-set win over the Vikings on Thursday and added 48 assists, 15 digs, five blocks and five kills in the four-set win over the Clan on Saturday.

Vikings’ senior middle blocker Kayleigh Harper was named the Defensive Player of the Week after she finished with 14 blocks and 22 kills in two matches. She had four blocks, 14 kills, two digs and two aces against Alaska Anchorage on Thursday before finishing just short of a double-double with 10 blocks, eight kills and two digs in Saturday’s three-set sweep of Alaska.

Western Washington senior forward Trevor Jaskinsky gave the Vikings their second consecutive Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honoree after he averaged 26 points and six rebounds per game over three games. His ledger included 24 points against both Cal Poly Pomona on Monday and Concordia-Irvine on Friday and 30 points against Azusa Pacific on Saturday. He also shot 89.4 percent from the free throw line in the three games, going 34 for 38.

Northwest Nazarene senior guard Marina Valles was named the Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after she finished with 32 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists in the Nighthawks’ own Fairfield Inn Tournament. She finished with 17 points, four assists, four rebounds and three steals in Friday’s win over Colorado Christian and then had 15 points in Saturday’s loss to Westminster (Utah).

Offensive: Christian Moore
(Central Washington, QB, 6-5, So., Puyallup, Wash. – Bellarmine Prep): Moore completed 16 of 34 passes for 234 yards and four touchdowns and also rushed five times for 24 yards and a touchdown as the Wildcats clinched a share of the GNAC championship with a 51-14 win over Simon Fraser. He finished with 258 yards of total offense while spreading his passes between eight different receivers. Also Nominated: Solomon Hines (Simon Fraser), Ty Currie (Western Oregon).

Defensive: Tevin Gray (Central Washington, LB, 5-11, Sr., Lake Stevens, Wash. – Lake Stevens): Gray finished with five tackles, including four solo tackles, and forced a fumble as the Central Washington defense allowed just 261 yards of total offense in a 51-14 win over Simon Fraser. Gray also recovered a blocked punt in the first quarter and ran it back two yards for the game’s first touchdown. Also Nominated: Griffin Barrett (Simon Fraser), Nate Proctor, Jr. (Western Oregon).

Special Teams: Patrick Hegarty (Central Washington, P/K, 6-4, So., Ferndale, Wash. – Simon Fraser Univ.): Hegarty went 6 for 7 on point-after opportunities and also nailed a 27-yard field goal in the fourth quarter in the Wildcats’ 51-14 win over Simon Fraser. Hegarty also punted three times for an average of 37 yards per punt and kicked off nine times for an average of 50.7 yards per kick. Also Nominated: Curtis Anderson (Western Oregon).

MEN’S SOCCER
Offensive:
Alden Massey (Seattle Pacific, F, 6-1, So., Duvall, Wash. – Cedarcrest): Massey scored a goal and had two assists in Seattle Pacific’s 4-1 win at Montana State Billings as the Falcons finished the season with two road wins. He assisted on the opening goal in the 18th minute and scored the game-winner in the 24th minute before adding an assist on an insurance goal in the 53rd. Also Nominated: Jason Fairhurst (Saint Martin’s), Mark Talisuna (Simon Fraser), Christian Rotter (Western Washington).

Defensive: Jorick Schilken (Simon Fraser, D, 6-0, Fr., Roermond, Netherlands – College Den Hulsler): Schilken helped anchor a Simon Fraser backline that allowed one goal in the final two regular-season matches. Schilken and the Clan turned back 12 shots by Western Washington and handed the Vikings their first GNAC loss of the season, 1-0, on Thursday. Simon Fraser then limited Saint Martin’s to three shots, one on goal, in a 2-1 win on Saturday. Also Nominated: Jose Marquez (Saint Martin’s), Brandon Locke (Western Washington).

She followed that performance up with 48 assists, 15 digs, five blocks and five kills in Saturday’s four-set win at Simon Fraser. Also Nominated: Makala Swart (Central Washington), Jessica Wheeler (Concordia), Joelle Mahowald (Montana State Billings), Brooke Foster (Northwest Nazarene), Mackenzie Carter (Saint Martin’s), Calley Heilborn (Western Washington).

She finished with four blocks, 14 kills, two digs and two aces in Thursday’s five-set loss to Alaska Anchorage. Harper then fell just short of a double-double with 10 blocks, eight kills and two digs in a three-set sweep of Alaska on Saturday. (Western Washington, F, 6-8, Sr., Camas, Wash. – Camas): Jasinsky averaged 26 points and six rebounds per game over three games and shot an impressive 89.4 percent from the free throw line. Jasinsky opened the week with 24 points and four rebounds in an 86-65 loss to Cal Poly Pomona. He made 12 of 15 free throws in the game. He then finished with 24 points and eight rebounds in Friday’s 79-72 win over Concordia-Irvine, making 6 of 11 from the field and all nine free throws. Jasinsky closed the week with 30 points and six rebounds in a 90-80 loss to Azusa Pacific on Saturday, going 7 of 15 from the field and 13 of 14 from the free throw line. Marina Valles
(Northwest Nazarene, G, 5-8, Sr., Barcelona, Spain – Sant Gervasi): Valles led Northwest Nazarene to a 1-1 week at its own Fairfield Inn Tournament with 32 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists, shooting 46.1 percent from the field and 7 of 9 from the free throw line. Valles opened the weekend with 17 points, four assists, four rebounds and three steals in an 87-64 win over Colorado Christian on Friday, making 7 of 12 from the field. She closed with 15 points in a 72-64 loss on Saturday to Westminster (Utah) to go with six rebounds and five assists.
