ARCATA, Calif. – When Humboldt State football takes the field at Carson-Newman on Sept. 1 it will be the first game of the 2016 schedule and also the first NCAA Division II football game of the season aired live on national television.

The two playoff teams from a year ago will have the opportunity to face off in front of millions of football-starved fans during the Thursday game on ESPN3. The season opener will be one of two nationally televised games for the Lumberjacks this season. In June, it was announced that the Oct. 22 game between Humboldt State and Western Oregon would air on the American Sports Network as part of the NCAA Division II Football Showcase.

The Jacks are coming off a historically successful 10-win 2015 campaign that saw the North Coast football program represented in the NCAA postseason for the first time since 1968. HSU will play five home and six road games in 2016.
