GNAC Lands 67 Athletes On USTFCCCA All-West Region List

PORTLAND, Ore. – A total of 67 athletes, including six in three different events, have been honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) with selection as Division II All-West Region honorees.

The GNAC landed 33 women and 31 men on the list. To be selected, an athlete must either be ranked in the top-five of an individual event in the region, according to final data in the Track & Field Results Recording System (TFRRS) or be a member of a top-three relay team.

The GNAC’s list includes six individuals who earned All-West Region laurels in three different events. Alaska Anchorage’s Cody Thomas, the co Men’s Athlete of the Meet at the GNAC Championships, was recognized in the 400 meters, decathlon and the 4x400-meter relay. Central Washington’s Armando Tafoya was recognized in three throwing events: the shot put, discus and hammer.

Seattle Pacific had all four women’s three-event honorees. Jahzelle Ambus was recognized in the 400 meters, the 4x100-meter relay and the 4x400-meter relay. Lynelle Decker was honored in the 800 meters, the 1,500 meters and the 4x400-meter relay. Maliea Luquin, the Women’s Athlete of the Meet at the GNAC Championships, was recognized in the 100-meter hurdles, the 400-meter hurdles and the heptathlon; and Jalen Tims was honored for her efforts in the 400-meter hurdles, the 4x100-mete relay and the 4x400-meter relay.

Another eight GNAC athletes were recognized in two different events. The list includes Alaska Anchorage’s Henry Cheseto, Jamie Ashcroft, Joyce Chelimo and Mary Kathleen Cross; Central Washington’s Bernari Sternen, Seattle Pacific’s Kyra Brannan, Simon Fraser’s Cameron Proceviat and Western Washington’s Alex Donigian.

Alaska Anchorage landed the most athletes on the All-West Region list with 14 (9 men, 5 women) while Western Washington finished with 13 (6 men, 7 women).
