PORTLAND, Ore. - The men’s golf 2014 fall season started up last week with two GNAC invitationals held by Saint Martin’s and Western Washington.

Simon Fraser’s Chris Crisologo had a great few days at the Western Washington Invitational and was named GNAC Golfer of the Week.

Crisologo, who leads the conference in individual scoring average at 69.5, opened and closed the three round tournament shooting a 67. He finished in fifth place at eight under par.

After the first round, Crisologo was in the lead while Simon Fraser’s team was one stroke off the team leader British Columbia.

A 74 on the second round knocked Crisologo off the pace a bit, but he finished strong with another 67 to end the invitational with a total score of 208.

British Columbia won the invitational with four Top 10 finishes including individual winner Evan Holmes who finished at 14 under par.

Simon Fraser’s team tied for second in the tournament while fellow GNAC member Western Washington finished fourth. Two Vikings finished in the Top 10 as Mark Strickland placed eighth at four under while last week’s GNAC Golfer of the Week, Anthony Allen, was three under and tied for ninth individually.

SMU’s Austin Spicer was the other player tied with Allen in ninth place as he shot a three under par as well.

The Montana State Billings golf team was sixth while Saint Martin’s and Northwest Nazarene finished seventh and ninth. Western Washington’s B team also competed and placed 10th.

Before the WWU Invite, all five GNAC teams participated in the Saint Martin’s Invitational last Friday and Saturday.

Western Washington won the invite with the help of three Top 10 finishes including Allen’s 6 under par, which won him the tournament.

Simon Fraser placed in second with three Top 10 finishers. Bret Thompson placed in third at five under par while Crisologo ended in fifth at four under.

In the two invitationals, seven GNAC players had Top 10 performances while 10 players shot at least one round under 70.

Western Washington’s Chris Hatch, along with Strickland, currently hold the low round scores of the season, both shooting a 66 at the Saint Martin’s Invitational. Crisologo has the three second best rounds however, shooting 67 once at the SMU Invite and twice at the WWU Invite.

Montana State Billings will be the next GNAC team in action as it hosts the MSUB Fall Invitational next Thursday while Saint Martin’s, Simon Fraser and Western Washington travel to Sunriver, Ore. to compete at the Golfweek Invitational on October 4 and 5.
