Jon Carey will return to Western Oregon University as the interim Athletic Director beginning Sept. 1, WOU president Mark Weiss announced Monday.

Carey will return for his second stint as the leader of the Western Oregon athletic department after retiring from the role in 2010. Carey initially served as the Athletic Director for 17 seasons, beginning in 1994.

He oversaw the Wolves' transition from NAIA to Division II, helped construct two NAIA National Championship basketball teams and led WOU to the 2007-08 Great Northwest Athletic Conference All-Sports Trophy.

"Jon is a man who believes in the ideals of Western Oregon University and will bring continuity and stability to the athletic department during this time of transition," said President Weiss. "He was excited for the opportunity to return on an interim basis to Western Oregon and I am thrilled to have him back."

Weiss also announced that a national search for a full-time Athletic Director will occur.

Knox Named Compliance Officer at Hawaii Hilo

Pam Knox is moving on from Western Oregon University to take over as the Athletic Director of Compliance/Senior Woman Administrator, University of Hawaii  at Hilo Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday.

Knox  served as the head coach of the Wolves' softball program for the past 10 seasons. She won over 200 games at WOU and led the Wolves to the finals of the NCAA West Regional in 2008. She was also named the Great Northwest Athletic  Conference coach of the year in 2008. Knox has also served as the Senior Women's  Administrator at WOU and as the chair of the National Softball  Committee.

Knox did speak on how difficult it will be to leave a program  and a university which she has been part of for the past 10 years.

"I  have established a lot of great relationships during my time at Western Oregon,"  said Knox. "The people and the players are the most difficult to
leave."

At UHH, Knox will step away from coaching and into an  administrative role.

"Leaving coaching and getting into athletic  administration was a transition that I was ready to make," said Knox. "This is a  great opportunity, the timing was perfect and I am ready to make that  transition."
