PORTLAND, Ore. – The GNAC’s weekly online radio show GNAC Insider returned to the air on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. PST with Simon Fraser athletic director Theresa Hanson, Northwest Nazarene women’s golf senior Sam Miller and Saint Martin’s softball outfielder Mary Dettling joining host Rob Lowery live.

Hanson joined the show after a busy news week on Burnaby Mountain. Simon Fraser moved up to No. 6 in the latest Learfield Director’s Cup rankings after strong performances in swimming, wrestling and women’s basketball during the winter season. Simon Fraser also approved a plan to build permanent seating at Terry Fox Field, which will be the new home of Simon Fraser football. The Clan’s most prominent football player, Jordan Herdman, has also been earning headlines as he vies for a spot in the NFL draft in two weeks. Hanson is in her second year as the athletic director of the NCAA’s lone Canadian member institution.

Miller joined GNAC Insider right after getting off the golf course from the College of Idaho Invitational. Miller finished the event in second place with a score of 155, leading Northwest Nazarene to a second-place team finish. Two weeks ago, Miller set the GNAC record for best score in the NNU Invitational, carding a six-over-par 150 to earn her second GNAC Women’s Golfer of the Week honor of the season and fifth of her career. Miller will be back in action in two weeks at the GNAC Championships in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Dettling enters a key four-game series against Northwest Nazarene with a seven-game hitting streak. The Saints haven’t lost to NNU since 2012, but the Crusaders are right behind Saint Martin’s in the GNAC standings this year. The Saints are currently No. 2 in the GNAC standings, just percentage points ahead of NNU, which has played two more games so far this year. Dettling has recorded 16 extra-base hits this year, which leads the Saints lineup.
