Barbara Dearing, Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Western Oregon University since 2013, has been appointed to the prestigious NCAA Division II Championships Committee.

Her appointment is effective immediately.

The NCAA is wasting no time integrating Dearing into the workings of the committee; she heads to Indianapolis in mid-February for the group's winter meeting. Her term lasts until August 2019.

"It's an honor to have been selected to serve on the Championships Committee and to serve the NCAA D2 membership in this role," Dearing said. "I look forward to the committee's continued work together to create memorable NCAA tournaments for the student-athletes and fans alike."

The purpose of the Championships Committee is the primary oversight group responsible for administering policies and procedures surrounding the division's 25 championships. The committee oversees the budget and conduct of these championships, as well as the qualification and selection procedures for each. All Division II sport committees report directly to the Championships Committee.

The committee is comprised of 12 members, including one member of the Division II Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and two members of the Division II Management Council.

During her career, Dearing has served on a number of NCAA committees along with GNAC and Big Sky Conference committees.  She has served on both the NCAA Division I Softball Committee and the Division II Softball Committee, along with being the past chair of the Division I Softball West regional advisory committee chair.  Currently, she serves on the NCAA D-II Softball West Regional Advisory Committee as a representative from the GNAC.
