COEUR d’ALENE, Idaho – Following the first round of the 2013-14 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Championships presented by the Coeur d’Alene Resourt, Saint Martin’s Mandy Wittmier and Western Washington’s Anna Bourland are tied for the lead each with an 18-hole total of 78.

Bourland’s mark helped Western Washington to a team score of 319 to lead the field after Day 1 at the par 71, 5,914-yard Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course. In second place with a team score of 327 is Montana State Billings, with Saint Martin’s in third place at 332.

Rounding out the field for the women are Simon Fraser in fourth place at 341 and Northwest Nazarene in fifth place at 346.

Three women logged a score of 79 in Round 1, with Erin Farner of Simon Fraser, Kristen Hansen of WWU and Jennifer Liedes of SMU achieving the 8-over par mark.

Leading through the front nine on Day 1 were Wittmier and Brooke Branigan of Western Washington, who each logged scores of 36. Branigan finished with a 9-over 80, contributing to the Vikings’ lead at the midway point. Also in the top-10 for the Vikings was Audrey Orem, who logged a first-round score of 82.

Melissa Saken paced Montana State Billings with a 9-over 80, and three of her teammates - BreAnna Cameron, Katie Fish, and Capri Ingram - tied for 10th place each with a score of 82.

Jessica Knight and Sam Miller finished in the top-10 for Northwest Nazarene, each finishing with a score of 81.

Tuesday’s final round begins at 7:30 a.m. Pacific time, and the women will tee off from Hole 10. Results will be posted online every nine rounds, and may be followed via Golf Stat.
