PORTLAND, Ore. - Fifteen Great Northwest Athletic Conference student-athletes have been selected as GNAC Red Lion Players of the Week for the week of Sept. 23-29.
The honorees include:
Football
Offense – Griff Robles, Dixie State (QB, 6-5, 230, Sr., Spanish Fork, UT) and Jordan Todd, Central Washington (RB, 5-6, 186, So., Bellevue, WA – Interlake) ... Robles had 401 yards in total offense and accounted for six touchdowns leading the Red Storm to a 49-24 road win at Humboldt State. Robles completed 22 of 46 passes for 283 yards and three touchdowns and also rushed for 118 yards and three touchdowns. He scored on runs of 1, 1 and 12 yards and tossed TD passes of eight yards to Mitch Frei, 26 yards to Joel Davis and 17 to Joe Don Duncan ... Todd rushed for a GNAC-season high 189 yards and set up a first-quarter touchdown with a 53-yard run to lead Central Washington to a 7-3 win at Azusa Pacific.
Defense – Kraig Akins, Western Oregon (DE, 6-2, 270, Jr., Springfield, OR - Thurston) and Daniel Moffett, Dixie State (FS, 6-2, 215, Jr., Kayville, UT – Davis) ... Akins had 11 tackles, including three for losses totaling 21 yards as the Wolves held previously unbeaten Simon Fraser to just three field goals in a 30-9 win. Among Akins’ three TFLs were two quarterback sacks. He also forced two fumbles. Moffett had a GNAC-record tying three interceptions (for 56 yards) in Dixie’s 49-24 win at Humboldt State. Moffett, who also had four tackles and broke up a pass, is the sixth player in GNAC history to record three interceptions in a single game.
Specialty – Isaiah Davis, Central Washington (DB, 5-10, 176, So., Bremerton, WA – South Kitsap) had 100 return yards for the Wildcats, netting 66 on four punt returns and 34 on two kickoff returns and providing valuable field position in a 7-3 win at Azusa Pacific.
Honorable Mention – Joe Harris, Western Oregon; Chris Tolbert, Simon Fraser; Jesse Correa, Western Oregon; Austin Schnizler, Central Washington.
Volleyball
Offense – Katelynn Zanders, Alaska Anchorage (OH, 5-9, So., Anchorage, AK - South) had 27 kills, 19 digs and five aces to lead the Seawolves to 3-1 road victories at Central Washington and Northwest Nazarene as the Seawolves improved to 4-0 in conference matches.
Defense – Samantha Hutchinson, Western Washington (L, 5-7, Jr., University Place, WA - Curtis) and Quinn Barker, Alaska Anchorage (L, 5-5, Jr., Mission Viejo, CA – Central Arizona) ... Hutchinson had digs on 20 percent of MSU Billings’ and Seattle Pacific’s attacks in a pair of 3-0 victories as the Vikings opened their conference season with two victories. She had a total of 54 in six sets (9.00), helping hold WWU’s two opponents to a .099 hitting percentage ... Barker netted 41 digs and also had seven aces without a service error and just two reception errors in a pair of 3-1 road victories.
Honorable Mention – Kayla Erickson, Western Washington; Kristyn Ross, Saint Martin’s; Jessica Riddle, Saint Martin’s; Erin Smith, Central Washington; Catie Fry, Central Washington; Andrea Terpstra, Northwest Nazarene; Taylor Roberts, Northwest Nazarene; Megan Triggs, Western Oregon.
Women’s Soccer
Offense – Savanna Moorehouse, Central Washington (M, 5-11, Jr., Bonney Lake, WA – Bonney Lake) scored three goals, none more important than the game-tying goal against MSU Billings in the 71st minute on Saturday. The goal set up Lauren Duty’s game-winner in the first period of overtime, and CWU picked up six points with a pair of victories. Moorehouse received assists from GNAC Defensive Player of the Week Tarah Duty on all three of her goals. “Savanna continues to demonstrate her importance to us as our offensive midfielder,” said head coach Michael Farrand. “During the past two weeks she has had an impact in every game.”
Defense – Tarah Duty, Central Washington (D, 5-4, Sr., Black Diamond, WA – Tahoma) not only anchored a back line that allowed just two goals for more than 180 minutes last week, but she also contributed to the Wildcats’ offensive success as she distributed three assists on Thursday and two more on Saturday. Her effort helped CWU capture two wins and the Wildcats now sit in third place in the GNAC standings with nine points. “Tarah is one of the top defenders in the conference and region,” said Farrand, adding, “she contributed to five of our six goals, quite an accomplishment from an outside defender.”
Honorable Mention – Catherine Miles, Western Washington; Hannah Huesers, Seattle Pacific; Lexi Fesenbek, Northwest Nazarene; Kelli Bannerman, Saint Martin’s; Delanee Nilles, Western Washington; Rebekah Kelley, Northwest Nazarene; Taylor Hauck, Seattle Pacific; Becca Hoiland, Western Oregon; Alisa Sagdahl, MSU Billings.
Men’s Soccer
Offense – Andrew Weishaar, Western Washington (F, 6-1, Sr., Puyallup, WA - Puyallup) led the GNAC with three goals scored last week as the Vikings grabbed a pair of victories and six points to move into a tie for second in the conference standings with Seattle Pacific. Weishaar added the insurance goal on Thursday as WWU comfortably beat the University of Mary 3-1, and then provided all the offense the Vikings would need on Saturday. The senior striker notched a goal in the 17th minute against South Dakota Mines, and then struck again in the 78th to break a 1-1 tie and send the Vikings to victory. “Andrew has been very sharp in the final third (of the field),” commented head coach Greg Brisbon. “Both goals against South Dakota Mines were fantastic, and they were at the right times when we needed to score.”
Defense – Ryan Foo, Northwest Nazarene (GK, 6-1, Fr., San Jose, CA – Archbishop Mitty) played 200 minutes in goal and made 11 saves to help the Crusaders to four points with a draw Thursday against Seattle Pacific and their first victory of the season on Saturday as they handed Saint Martin’s its first conference loss of 2013. The freshman made nine saves against Seattle Pacific Saturday, and held the Falcons, who are undefeated in GNAC play, scoreless for nearly 100 minutes after conceding a goal in the 11th. "Ryan came up with some key saves through the first 70 minutes against SPU," said head coach Coe Michaelson, adding "he really has stepped it up over the past few weeks and shown that he can be an excellent goalkeeper at this level."

Cross Country
Male – Joe Berger, Saint Martin’s (Sr., Enumclaw, WA) blew away the field in the Saint Martin’s Invitational Saturday, posting a 22-second victory. Berger covered the 8,000-meter layout under wet and rainy conditions in a time of 26:30.46.
Women – Hannah Calvert, Seattle Pacific (Fr., Enumclaw, WA) finished fourth overall and first among collegians in the Saint Martin’s Invitational. Calvert, in just her third year of cross country running (she didn’t turn out until her junior year in high school), finished the 6,000-meter layout in a time of 23:50.02. That’s the fourth fastest SPU time in the meet since it went to 6,000-meters in 2008.
Honorable Mention – Ross MacDougall, Alaska Fairbanks.
Golf
Male - Brad Harrelson, MSU Billings (Sr., Snoqualmie, WA – Mount Si) placed third in the Western Washington Invitational. Harrelson’s 212 total, highlighted by a single-round low of 66, helped the Yellowjackets to a sixth place finish. “Brad has had a great start to the season,” said head coach Shawn O’Brien. “He has always had a lot of potential, and we will look for him to post low scores for us this year.”
Female - Kristen Hansen, Western Washington (So., Spokane, WA – Mead) finished third in the Western New Mexico Invitational with a 36-hole score of 148 leading the Vikings to a fourth-place team finish. She finished one shot back of the co-leaders. “Kristen played extremely well the first round,” commented head coach Bo Stephan. “I was proud of her ability to come out of the gates fast and help our team to a first-round lead.”
