PORTLAND, Ore. - Britt Harris and John Allen of Western Washington and Alysa Horn of Alaska Anchorage are the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Red Lion Men's and Women's Basketball Players of the Week for their performances for the Week of Dec. 17-23, 2012.
With the holiday season, GNAC teams now take a break before action resumes on Saturday, Dec. 29.
Harris and Allen led the Vikings to two wins each Tuesday and Wednesday in the Las Vegas South Point Holiday Hoops Classic, while Horn led the Seawolves to three wins in the AT&T Hoops Classic in Anchorage Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Allen, Harris and Horn each earned MVP honors in their respective tournaments.
Women’s Basketball - Britt Harris, Western Washington (C, 6-2, Sr., Marysville, WA – Marysville-Pilchuck) and Alysa Horn, Alaska Anchorage (F, 6-0, Sr., Kodiak, AK) ... Harris scored 42 points and also had 13 rebounds, six assists and five steals leading the Vikings to wins over nationally sixth-ranked Washburn (64-62) and No. 15 Grand Canyon (72-68 in overtime). Harris converted on 14 of 30 field goal attempts and 14 of 19 free throws ... Horn was selected the Most Outstanding Player in the AT&T Hoops Classic in Anchorage. She scored 62 points and also had 27 rebounds, eight blocked shots, eight steals and five assists leading the Seawolves to wins over BYU-Hawaii (100-68), Eastern New Mexico (82-40) and Cal State L.A. (66-56). Honorable Mention – Taylor Altenburg, Alaska Fairbanks.
Men’s Basketball – John Allen, Western Washington (G, 190, Sr., Brier, WA – Mountlake Terrace) scored 47 points leading the Vikings to wins over 14th ranked Drury (72-69) and Central Oklahoma (103-74) in the South Point Holiday Hoop Classic in Las Vegas. Allen made 14 of 28 shots, including nine of 17 three-point shots. He also had six assists and three steals. The two wins extended WWU’s win streak to 15, matching the second longest in GNAC history. Its also the second longest in WWU school history. Honorable Mention – Stefan Tica, Alaska Fairbanks.
