PORTLAND, Ore. – Making their presence known on the offensive side of the ball as well as in the classroom, Western Oregon senior tight end Caleb Tingstad and Azusa Pacific senior offensive lineman Jonah Wataru have been selected to the Google Cloud/CoSIDA Super Region 4 Academic All-District Football Team.

Tingstad, who carries a 3.85 cumulative grade point average as an economics major, is also a two-time GNAC Football All-Academic Team selection and had the second highest GPA on conference academic squad. Tingstad appeared in all games for the Wolves at tight end, finishing with 24 receiving yards. He also threw for a touchdown on a trick play against Humboldt State on Oct. 20.

Wataru, who has a 3.67 GPA while pursuing his Master’s of Business Administration, was one of four three-time selections to the GNAC Football All-Academic Team this season. Wataru was part of an offensive line for the Cougars that allowed just 3.64 tackles for loss per game, which ranks fifth in Division II, and protected an offense that finished second in the GNAC with 30 points per game.

Nominated by and voted upon by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the Google Cloud Academic and All-America programs recognize student-athletes who demonstrate excellence both on the field and in the classroom. Nominees must be of sophomore standing or higher, be a starter or important reserve on their team and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or greater.

Both Tingstad and Wataru will advanced to the ballot for the Google Cloud Division II Academic All-America Team, which will be announced on Tues., Dec. 11.
