PORTLAND, Ore. – Three Great Northwest Athletic Conference performers, led by Humboldt State offensive lineman Alex Cappa, have been named to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II Coaches’ All-American Team.

Cappa was named to the AFCA All-America First Team, becoming the second first team selection for the Lumberjacks in as many years. He was joined by a pair of second team selections in Simon Fraser linebacker Jordan Herdman and Azusa Pacific defensive end C.J. Broussard.

Cappa was named the GNAC Offensive Lineman of the Year for the third consecutive year and was one of five GNAC selections to the D2CCA All-Region Team. He anchored an Lumberjacks’ offensive line that provided excellent protection for the top offense in the league. The HSU line allowed just 1.73 sacks per game.

Herdman, the GNAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2014 and 2015, became the league’s all-time career tackles leader in tackles (428) and assisted tackles (223). A nominee for the Cliff Harris Award, honoring the top defensive player in Division II, Division III and NAIA, Herdman fell just short of the GNAC career record of 208 solo tackles. He led the league and finished tied for 10th in Division II in total tackles with 113.

Broussard led the GNAC with five interceptions and finished ranked 54th in Division II with an average of 0.4 interceptions per game. Broussard was also among the Azusa Pacific leaders with 74 tackles (38 solo, 36 assists), ranking him 11th in the GNAC.
