Tuesday, November 10, 2015

One would expect to find the biggest matchups in the final week of the season to be conference games. Not in week 11 in the GNAC.

The week’s biggest game will be a non-conference tilt at McArthur Field in Monmouth, Ore., where Western Oregon will host Humboldt State in a non-conference matchup. Both teams have plenty to play for.

While Humboldt State has clinched the outright GNAC championship, the Lumberjacks will be looking to secure a spot in the NCAA Division II Playoffs. Humboldt State is ranked No. 3 in Super Region 3 and would love to move up with a win.

Western Oregon, meanwhile, want to prove that they belong in the postseason picture. The Wolves are ranked No. 10 in Super Region 3 for the second straight week and come into the game having won six straight games. Western Oregon will have to convince the ranking committee to move them into the top-7, a task that will require a win.

The GNAC season ends with two conference games. Dixie State will travel to Central Washington for their final game in the conference. Members of the GNAC since football returned to the conference in 2008, the Red Storm will move to the RMAC in football for the 2016 season. Both the Red Storm and the Wildcats are looking to end the conference season with a 3-3 record.

Simon Fraser is at Azusa Pacific for the other GNAC matchup. The Cougars come into the game rested with a bye week last weekend and are coming off a close 17-14 loss to Western Oregon on Oct. 31. Simon Fraser is looking for their first win of the season after dropping a heartbreaker in their home finale, 30-24, to Central Washington.

South Dakota Mines played their final GNAC game last weekend, falling 33-15 to Western Oregon. The Hardrockers also move to the RMAC in 2016 and will host William Jewell in a non-conference game on Saturday.

SELECTION SHOW: The NCAA Division II Football Selection Show will air on Sunday, 2 p.m. (Pacific), and can be seen at NCAA.com. A total of 28 teams will qualify for the postseason, seven from each of thefour super regions.
