PORTLAND, Ore.  - A total of 45 student-athletes – including 11 each from Azusa Pacific University and and Dixie State University - have been selected to the 2014 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Academic all-conference football team.

Simon Fraser linebacker Jordan Herdman has the best GPA among the honorees with a 3.99 in biomedical physiology.  Herdman has also been a standout on the field this fall setting a GNAC single-season record for tackles.  Going into the last week of the regular-season he ranks second nationally averaging 14.8 tackles per game.

Two players have 3.90 GPAs – Taylor Mitchell of Humboldt State and Jake Miller of Dixie State.

Eight players are repeaters from last year’s team including Alex Markarian of Humboldt State and Brock Johnson of Dixie State, who made the academic team for the third year in a row.

One of the academic standouts is completing his master’s degree in management.  Azusa Pacific’s Steven Fanua, who leads the Cougars in tackles and has a 3.69 GPA, got his undergrad degree from Cal Berkeley in three years before transferring to APU to work toward his master’s.
