BURNABY, BC - Simon Fraser University Athletics has dismissed football head coach Dave Johnson from his duties.

“After carefully reviewing all aspects of our football program, we have decided it is time to seek a new leader for Clan football that will achieve the goals we have set for the program,” said Milt Richards, SFU's senior director of athletics and recreation.

Last Saturday, the Clan wrapped up its 2013 season against Azusa Pacific, finishing the year with a 3-7 record.

In seven years at the helm of the Clan, Johnson has posted a 18-46 record, including going 6-17 in three seasons in Canadian Interuniversity Sport and 12-29 in four seasons in the NCAA.

“I want to thank coach Johnson, his family and his entire staff for all of their hard work. We all wish him and his family the best as they begin the next chapter of their life,” finished Richards.

In a corresponding move, the Clan announced that defensive coordinator James Colzie III has also been relieved of his duties.

Offensive coordinator Nick Lucey has been retained.
