MONMOUTH, Ore. - Western Oregon University Athletics and the campus community are grieved by the tragic death of freshman Nick Lyngheim.

Lyngheim, an 18-year-old freshman student from Gresham, Oregon and member of the WOU football team, was involved in a fatal car accident this week. Lyngheim, an offensive lineman with the Wolves, was a 2017 graduate of Centennial High School and planned to major in psychology.

The Lyngheim family has requested that in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Centennial High School Football program.

"As a hard-working young man, Nicholas immediately became a member of our family with his approach and demeanor," said WOU head coach Arne Ferguson. "Just starting his collegiate academic career, his loss is a tragedy and our thoughts go out to his family and to everyone involved. He will be missed."

"On behalf of the students, faculty and staff at Western Oregon University, I extend our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Nick as they mourn his loss," President Rex Fuller said.
