A FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING: It has been five years since a Montana State Billings female athlete won a race, but senior Nikki Aiken put an end to that streak on Saturday.

Aiken opened the season with a win at the South Dakota Mines Hardrocker Classic, covering the 5,000-meter course in a time of 21:25.40. She was five seconds faster than the second-place runner, Madison Watson of Chadron State. The victory earned Aiken selection as the GNAC Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week.

In winning the race, Aiken became the first Yellowjackets’ women’s winner since Nocona Frame won the Black Hills State Early Bird meet on Oct. 18, 2014. Aiken is just the third MSUB women’s athlete to win a race in the school’s GNAC era.
