NEW ORLEANS – With the excellent cross country program that Seattle Pacific has, it requires an excellent communications specialist to tell the program’s story and publicize its successes.

Seattle Pacific assistant sports information director Mark Moschetti certainly fills the role well. His work on behalf of the Falcons has been recognized by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) with its Excellence in Communications Award for the 2018 cross country season.

It is the second time that Moschetti has been honored by the USTFCCCA for his work with the SPU cross country and track and field programs. He was honored with the organization’s award for Division II track and field in 2015.

“When a nomination begins like this, ‘Mark has consistently exhibited the exact phrase of this award: Excellence in Communications,’ you take notice,” said the USTFCCCA’s official award release.

“Then it continues like this, ‘He is unlike any SID I have ever worked with.’ And finally, ‘His understanding of the sport of cross country transcends the always-existent gap between those in the sport and the casual public observer. He cares for the student-athletes and coaches, and he emphasizes both quality and quantity of information.’”

“Moschetti has done wonders covering the cross country programs at Seattle Pacific. Not only does he produce informative media guides filled with information about each student-athlete that alumni and parents love to read, but he also will let those same readers know where to park at a meet, what to wear at a meet and the program history on the course that they will run. This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to coverage provided by Moschetti.”

Moschetti is in his 11th year as assistant sports information director at Seattle Pacific. In addition to his work with cross country and track and field programs, Moschetti is the primary contact for the Falcons’ volleyball and women’s basketball programs.

Moschetti is only the second two-time recipient of the USTFCCCA’s Excellence in Communications award, joining Jon Holtz of Slippery Rock University, who earned the cross country award in 2015 and track and field award in 2017.

It also marks the fourth time that a GNAC athletic communications professional has received the award. In addition to Moschetti’s two awards. former GNAC sports information director Bob Guptill won the first Division II Cross Country Excellence in Communication award in 2014 while current GNAC assistant commissioner Blake Timm won the Division II track and field award in 2018.
