PORTLAND, Ore. – A pair of GNAC players are being recognized for their performance both on the field and in the classroom with selection to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 Baseball Team.

Northwest Nazarene senior Tyler Davis and Montana State Billings’ sophomore Adam Cox were the conference’s two honorees on the team, which was announced on May 5.

Davis, a regular starting infielder for the Crusaders, has compiled a 3.48 cumulative grade point average while majoring in recreation sports management with an emphasis on kinesiology and coaching. Ranked second for NNU and eighth in the GNAC with a .325 batting average, Davis entered the week second in the GNAC with 37 RBI, third with 54 hits and fourth with 38 runs.

Cox, a starter splitting time between pitcher and designated hitter for the Yellowjackets, has a 3.63 grade point average as a criminal justice major. Cox is second for MSUB and seventh in the GNAC with his .336 batting average and is third in the league with 35 RBI. On the mound, Cox entered the week with a 5-1 record and a 3.51 earned run average with five saves.

Davis and Cox are now eligible for the CoSIDA Division II Academic All-America Team, which will be announced on Thurs., June 2.

Nominated by and voted upon by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America, the CoSIDA Academic All-America program recognizes nearly 1,000 student-athletes annually at every level of collegiate athletics. Student-athletes in Division II’s District 8 are selected from the GNAC, the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and the PacWest Conference.
