AUSTIN, Texas – Montana State Billings outfielder Jalen Garcia has been named as an honorable mention preseason All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

Garcia was one of eight West Region players to be named to the preseason team, which was selected by national media and sports information directors who cover Division II baseball. Earlier this month, Garcia was named to the NCBWA's Preseason All-West Region Team.

An All-West Region selection a year ago, Garcia will be counted on to help lead MSUB back to the top of the conference standings in 2019. The senior is coming off one of the top statistical seasons in program history, leading the conference and breaking a single-season record for stolen bases with 25. At the plate, Garcia hit at a .351 clip while driving in 51 runs. 

Garcia, a Billings native, is now in his senior season with MSUB.

Montana State Billings opens the season ranked No. 7 in the NCBWA’s Division II Preseason West Region rankings. The club heads into the 2019 campaign looking to defend its regular-season conference title from 2018.

The Yellowjackets are slated to open the year on Sat., Feb. 9 with a doubleheader at Colorado Mines. Their conference opener is scheduled for Mar. 2 in Monmouth against Western Oregon.
