Four GNAC Teams Begin Spring Slate At The Lancer Joust

PORTLAND, Ore. – Four of the six GNAC teams begin the 2017-18 spring season playing in The Lancer Joust at The Goose Creek Golf Club in Jurupa Valley, Calif., next week.

Simon Fraser, the defending GNAC champion, will be one of those teams. The Clan is led by junior Emily Leung, who paced the Clan during the fall by averaging 75.4 strokes per round. Of the five tournaments that she competed in, Leung finished within the top-10 in four of the events.

Western Washington and Concordia will look to challenge for the conference crown this year. The Vikings are led by senior Jenn Paul who averaged 79 strokes per round in the fall. Named the GNAC Women's Golf Player of the Week twice this season, junior Shantel Antonio leads Concordia with 77.8 strokes per round.

Northwest Nazarene is the final GNAC team playing in The Lancer Joust. Montana State Billings and Saint Martin’s begin its spring campaigns in March. The Yellowjackets will play in the Warrior Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev., on Mar. 12 while the Saints join Northwest Nazarene, Simon Fraser and Western Washington at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout in Pleasanton, Calif., on Mar. 5.

THIS WEEK:

• This past fall saw the Cavaliers participate in four tournaments. Led by Antonio’s first-place finish (71), the Cavs earned a second-place team finish at the Northwest Shootout in October. She was named the GNAC Women's Golf Player of the Week twice this season.

• Antonio led Concordia by averaging 77.8 strokes in her eight rounds of golf this past fall. Sophomore Caitlyn Villatora (80.3) and freshman Kendall Freeman (80.9) also played eight rounds each. 

• Concordia is one of four GNAC teams that will play in The Lancer Joust next week.

MONTANA STATE BILLINGS
THIS WEEK: Idle
• The Yellowjackets begin the spring season on Mar. 12 at the Warrior Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev.

• Junior Shealyn Hafer achieved her highest finish this season at the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate after tying for 19th (155). Hafer is among three Yellowjackets that have played eight rounds this year and leads the team with 80.8 strokes per round. Senior Bailee Dexter also played in four fall tournaments for 81.6 strokes per round.

• Montana State Billings retained the Leslie Spalding Cup after defeating Rocky Mountain College 7.5-4.5 in a three-day match play event in mid-October.

• The Yellowjackets kickoff their spring slate at the Warrior Invitational on Mar. 12.

NORTHWEST NAZARENE
THIS WEEK: Feb. 26-27 at The Lancer Joust, Jurupa Valley, Calif.
• Junior Stephanie Miller was one of five Nighthawks to play six rounds in the fall as she led the team with 84.3 strokes per round. She finished third at the College of Idaho/Northwest Nazarene Fall Duel with a one-round score of 81.                

• Freshman Hannah Holloway won the medalist title with a 5-over par 77 at the College of Idaho/Northwest Nazarene Fall Duel, holding off teammate freshman Trinity McCarthy’s 79 for the victory.

• Northwest Nazarene is one of four GNAC teams that will play in The Lancer Joust next week.

SAINT MARTIN’S
THIS WEEK: Idle
• Junior Celia Beyke led the Saints by averaging 79.6 strokes per round. She was the lone Saint to achieve a top-five finish in the fall after claiming third at the Saint Martin’s Invitational with 159 total strokes.

• Senior Hannah Reynolds is second on the team with 83.4 strokes per round. She played her best golf at the Saint Martin’s Invitational as well, placing in 10th after carding an 81 and

• Sophomore Jaya Rampuri also impressed during the fall slate. The sophomore played in five events, coming away with a pair of top-five finishes. Rampuri tied for third in the Northwest Shootout in mid-September before tying for third at the Saint Martin’s Invitational with 159 strokes.

• Simon Fraser is one of four GNAC teams that will play in The Lancer Joust next week.

WESTERN WASHINGTON
THIS WEEK: Feb. 26-27 at The Lancer Joust, Jurupa Valley, Calif.
• Western Washington was one of three GNAC teams to play in five fall events. Senior Jenn Paul led the Vikings with 79 strokes per round.
