INDIANAPOLIS – The Simon Fraser women’s golf team and Western Washington’s Jenn Paul will be among 12 teams and six individuals competing at the NCAA Division II West Super Regional at Wichita Falls, Texas, beginning on May 8 as announced by the NCAA on Monday afternoon.

Simon Fraser will be making its first NCAA postseason appearance in program history as the No. 12 seed. The Clan successfully defended its GNAC title by winning the conference championships at the Coeur d’Alene Resort with a course record score of 48-over-par 616. Emily Leung was the tournament’s individual champion, scoring a 5-over-par 147 after carding a tournament low round of 1-under-par 70 in the first round. Kylie Jack took second place with an 11-over-par 153.

The Clan had a chance to compete alongside some of the West Region’s top teams in February at the CBU Invitational. The event featured five of the six West Region teams selected to the Super Regional. Simon Fraser took fourth place, finishing ahead of both Cal State Monterey Bay and Academy of Art.

Paul is the second Viking in the last four years to qualify for the Super Regional individually after Western Washington qualified as a team last year. Paul took 40th place in 2016 with a score of 15-over-par 231 out of 66 competitors to help Western Washington to a ninth-place team finish. This year, Paul has been among the conference’s most consistent performers, averaging 77.5 strokes per round with three top-10 finishes. She tied for third place at the GNAC Championships.

The Super Regional will be played at Wichita Falls Country Club. It is one of four Super Regionals being played to help determine which teams will advance to the national championships. A total of 48 teams from the eight regions were selected along with 24 golfers chosen to compete individually.

The tournament will be played over three days with 54 holes of competition. Both the top three teams and the top three individuals that are competing unattached will advance to the championships, which will be held in Findlay, Ohio, on May 17-20.
