ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Alaska Anchorage’s Leah Swiss was named Thursday to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 Volleyball Team, recognizing the junior as one of the top seven student-athletes her sport among the 38 schools of the NCAA Division II West Region.

The 6-foot outside hitter was honored for her 3.62 overall grade-point average as a global logistics and supply chain management major, plus her outstanding play on the court for the Seawolves.

The GNAC Preseason Player of the Year, Swiss leads the Seawolves (19-9, 14-5 GNAC) and ranks ninth in the league with 3.31 kills per set, along with 2.77 digs, 0.46 blocks and 0.46 aces per set. A 2016 AVCA Second Team All-American on last year’s NCAA runner-up squad and two-time All-GNAC selection already ranks No. 4 on UAA’s career kills list with 1,134, No. 2 in aces with 143, and No. 5 in victories with 81.

In addition to her CoSIDA honors, Swiss was named earlier this month to her second GNAC Volleyball All-Academic Team.

The all-district teams are voted on by College Sports Information Directors of America members throughout the NCAA’s eight geographical districts, with the Division II West Region comprised of three leagues – the GNAC, the PacWest Conference and the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Swiss will now be eligible for selection to the CoSIDA Division II Academic All-America Team, which will be announced on Dec. 12.
