INDIANAPOLIS – After ending her career with another All-American season on the track, Alaska Anchorage’s Danielle McCormick is the Great Northwest Athletic Conference’s nominee for the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year award.

McCormick is among 148 student-athletes chosen by conferences at the Division I, Division II and Division III levels out of a pool that included a record 585 nominees from member schools. The program recognizes graduating female student-athletes for excellence in academics, athletics, community service and leadership.

McCormick, a native of Soldotna, Alaska, was a two-time All-American for the Seawolves in both indoor and outdoor track and field and just missed All-American honors in cross country. She graduated from Alaska Anchorage in May with a degree in natural sciences.

During the indoor season, McCormick placed third at the Division II Indoor Championships in 2:06.08 to earn All-American honors. In addition, McCormick ran a leg on Alaska Anchorage’s distance medley relay team that set a GNAC record and finished second at the national championships. McCormick was the Division II national champion in the 800 meters in 2018.

Outdoors, McCormick claimed her second consecutive conference 800-meter title and went on to place fourth at the Division II Outdoor Championships in 2:09.41. Her season-best of 2:05.00 is No. 5 on the GNAC All-Time List.

McCormick also helped the Seawolves win the GNAC cross country title, earning All-GNAC honors with a 10th place time of 21:58.1. She also earned all-region honors with an 11th place time of 21:35.7 at the NCAA West Region Championships before placing 45th at the Division II Cross Country Championships.

In addition to her athletic accolades, McCormick was named for the second straight year to the Google Cloud/CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 Track & Field/Cross Country Team.

Over the course of her career, McCormick was a nine-time all-conference selection (two in cross country, three in indoor track and four in outdoor track) and a six-time GNAC All-Academic Team selection (three each in cross country and track and field).

The top-30 honorees, 10 from each division, will be named by the Woman of the Year selection committee in September. The selection committee will then narrow the pool to nine finalists, three from each division, in early October. From those finalists, the NCAA Committee of Women’s Athletics will select the 2019 Woman of the Year.

The winner will be named, and the top-30 honorees will be celebrated, at a banquet on October 20 in Indianapolis.
