KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Rounding out a strong women's soccer season, Seattle Pacific defender Julia DeVere and Western Washington defender Emily Nelson finish the year as selections to the 2018 United Soccer Coaches Division II Women's Scholar All-America Team.

Representing the Great Northwest Athletic Conference on a national level, DeVere earned first-team honors while Nelson was a second-team selection. 

Boasting a 3.91 GPA as a psychology major, DeVere spearheaded the Falcons defensive dominance throughout much of her final season in Seattle. The team finished third in the conference in goals allowed (15), goals against average (0.81) and shutouts (8). DeVere was named the GNAC Defensive Player of the Year after the outstanding campaign in addition to receiving First Team Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.

Nelson was a second-team Scholar All-America selection in addition to being named to the All-West Region's first team. A kinesiology major, the defender earned a 3.62 GPA. The junior has been named to the GNAC All-Academic team in each of her two years of eligibility. In addition to her success in the classroom, Nelson was a First Team All-GNAC selection on the pitch in 2018.

Student-athletes receiving Scholar All-America/Regional recognition must hold a 3.30 cumulative grade point average or throughout their career, start more than 50 percent of all games, significantly contribute to their team and be a junior (or above) academic standing. Players on this year’s Scholar All-America Teams will be formally acknowledged for their accomplishments at the All-America Luncheon on Jan. 12, 2019 at McCormick Place West in Chicago.
