ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The University of Alaska Anchorage is pleased to announce the hiring of Greg Myford as director of athletics.

"Greg is accomplished in shaping programs for success, adapting to where athletics is going, and his wealth of experience in promotion, marketing and fundraising will be critical to shaping our Seawolf future,” said Samuel B. Gingerich, UAA interim chancellor. “Collegiate athletics has become a very marketing-focused, market-driven enterprise and he has the expertise and competitive drive to take UAA athletics to new heights of success."

“I am extremely grateful and humbled by the opportunity to serve the University of Alaska Anchorage and their Department of Athletics," Myford said. "It’s a special time to join the UAA community, along with incoming Chancellor (Dr. Cathy) Sandeen and Vice Chancellor (Beverly) Shuford, and I want to thank interim Chancellor Gingerich and the entire search committee for their thoroughness and professionalism throughout the process.”

“I’m very pleased to join forces with them, as well as Faculty Athletics Representative (Dr. Deborah) Narang and other university leaders to advance the educational mission of the University and move UAA Athletics into the next chapter of achievement.”

“I’m also very excited to work with the Department’s professional staff and coaches as we guide and support UAA Student-Athletes in their pursuit of excellence – academically, athletically and personally. I understand the vital nature of our work, as our staff and coaches are charged with producing graduates who earn meaningful degrees and return to serve their communities as productive, honorable citizens.”

Myford, a native Pennsylvanian, was raised in the home of two career educators. He earned a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism from Pennsylvania State University and began his professional career in the emerging cable television industry. From there, he earned executive roles in professional sports with the Detroit Pistons and Tampa Bay Lightning.

Myford then went on to lead the external relations team at Penn State for 10 years, where his team was involved in previously unseen achievements in event attendance, facility enhancements and revenue generation.

Since 2013, Myford has been employed at IMG College, where he was responsible for the design and management of multimedia rights agreements and corporate sponsorships for a number of prominent universities, including Florida State most recently.

Myford is the father of 22- and 20-year-old daughters, who are currently attending college at Penn State and Ole Miss, respectively.

Myford will begin his UAA duties on July 31.
