KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Glenna Andrews, who serves as a championships and compliance intern for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, is among the recipients of the 2017 Rising Star Award by Women Leaders in College Athletics (formerly NACWAA).

Andrews is one of three recipients of the organization’s Rising Star and Commitment Awards. The award will be presented during the Women Leaders National Convention, Oct. 8-10 in Dallas, Texas.

“Glenna is one of the up-and-coming individuals in the world of college athletics,” said Bridget Johnson Tetteh, associate commissioner of the GNAC. “She has been instrumental in helping the GNAC plan and execute our conference championships this season. She is an excellent leader and does a terrific job with coaches, athletes and administrators from our 11 institutions. I could not be more proud of her work and look forward to watching her grow in the profession.”

The Rising Star Award recognizes junior or senior undergraduates, graduate students, interns or volunteers who aspire to a career in intercollegiate athletics. These Women Leaders members demonstrate high-level leadership roles on campus, in a conference office, an organization or in the community.

As a member of the GNAC staff, Andrews has supported the conference’s compliance operations and has played a key role in the planning and execution of the league’s championship events. In addition, Andrews was one of the primary organizers of this year’s Women In Sports Seminar, hosted by the GNAC in April in Portland.

Andrews has split her time this year between the GNAC office and the University of Portland, where she works as a athletics student-athletes services intern. She will join the Pilots’ staff full-time this summer as a member of the student-athlete development team.

“The goal of any intern is to make themselves invaluable, and Glenna has done that and more,” said Karen Peters, Portland senior associate athletic director. “She has been so incredibly impactful in our department and all of her work demonstrates her commitment to a well-rounded student-athlete development. We are fortunate to have her as a part of our Pilot family.”

A native of Wisconsin, Andrews completed her bachelor’s degree in psychology at Lewis & Clark College, where she competed in track and field. While an undergraduate at Lewis & Clark, Andrews worked in the athletic department as the student life intern for athletic administration.

Women Leaders in College Athletics Rising Star recipients receive scholarships to attend the 2017 Women Leaders National Convention.
