FAIRBANKS, Alaska - University of Alaska Fairbanks Director of Athletics, Dr. Gary Gray, has announced the hiring of Nona Letuligasenoa as assistant athletic director of communications and sports information director. Letuligasenoa will officially assume all duties related to the Alaska Nanooks sports information office on July 1.

A hometown product of Fairbanks, Letuligasenoa will oversee all athletic communications and operations for Alaska's 10 varsity sports. Prior to stepping into her new role, Letuligasenoa has been working in the Alaska athletic department for the past two seasons as the Marketing and Media Relations Assistant.

"I'm extremely thankful for the opportunity to continue working with Dr. Gray and the rest of the University of Alaska athletic department," Letuligasenoa said. "Working for the Alaska Nanooks these past two years has been nothing but a positive learning experience for me. I'm looking forward to promoting my hometown team in a community I feel so passionately about."

This past season, Letuligasenoa served as the Nanooks' primary contact for men's ice hockey, men's and women's cross country and men's and women's nordic ski, while also helping coordinate the alaskananooks.com website and all of Alaska's social media ventures. Along with her day-to-day duties, Letuligasenoa assisted in game day management, live streaming for all home events via Stretch Internet, facilitated student-athlete interviews and post-game press conferences, managed student-workers and was responsible for in-game statistics for hockey and volleyball. She has also helped student-athletes earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors and multiple student-athletes at Alaska earn all-conference selections.

"I'm really excited to see Nona move into this critically important position in Nanook Athletics," Gray said on Thursday. "As the media relations assistant last year, she did a great job covering all of her sports and providing athletic communications assistance in other sports. Now, as the assistant athletic director of communications, she will have the primary oversight of all 10 Nanook sports. Nona has a thorough understanding of our program and has excellent ties within the Fairbanks sports community."

Since joining the Alaska staff in fall of 2014, Letuligasenoa has served as the tournament director for the past two Brice Alaska Goal Rush tournaments and assisted in preparations and operations for the 2015 NCAA Rifle Championships. Additionally, Letuligasenoa has collaborated with other athletics staff on the event planning for various tournaments and banquets for the Nanooks.

Prior to Alaska, Letuligasenoa earned a dual bachelor's degree in business management and communications from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in May of 2014, where she was a four-year letter winner for the Division I women's ice hockey team.
